PA How to remove the ventilation louvers in the center of the dash

How do you remove the ventilation louvers in the center of the dash of a 1st gen? These are the ones just above the radio and heater controls in the center of the dash. I want to clean behind them but they do not seem to “pop” out like the round ones on the side of the dash. I’ve tried to “pry and pop” them out but they are not cooperating and I don’t want to break anything. Appreciate nay insight.

I managed to get mine out once by prying them out. My nerves were on pins and needles though! It was harder to get them back in.

78-83 center vents are not individual pieces. they are one piece and are held with screws on each end, facing up to the dash board. there is a chance you can remove it without taking the entire dash apart.

I just popped the louvered piece out. There are push tabs on each side that you can access with a screw driver. Just dont apply too much pressure or it could crack. Mine were bendy enough.
