How to remove steering lock. Not OEM?

Trying to remove steering column and hit a problem. Steering lock does not match that shown in the FSM or Haynes…. And I don’t see the bolt heads I am supposed to chisel a slot in to remove the steering lock.

Anyone know how to remove this steering lock? Lock body has Yushin SL if any help. Maybe if we can understand how it was installed (I see some form of attachment hardware circled in red) we can work out a removal. Really hoping to not have to take the dash apart!

Thanks.

That is an OE lock assembly and those are the bolt heads that you have to slot/chisel.

They had hex heads on installation, they are tightened until the hex part breaks off. This way a thief cannot just remove the bolts.

I used a small cutting wheel on a dremel to make a slot.

They used to look like this, as said the hex part breaks off when tightened:

Got it! Ended up unbolting then steering box and sliding the steerer a few inches into the cab so I can get at the bolts. Was really dreading having to take apart the dash.

You're in luck! Taking the dash apart requires the steering box to be removed first...
