how quick does your carb'd fb start?

ok, you guys with 12a's or even carbed 13b's, turbo or n/a....... does your car start up pretty easy all the time? cold or hot, ofcourse given your car is in decent working order. i'm thinking of a few different ideas for the future and wondering if i want to stay carbed. ALSO, if any of you (and i know some have) have switched from the stock nikki to the holley or weber or whatever, did starting become harder? i ask this because i'm not used to a CORRECTLY WORKING CARB and am deciding if a carb is worth it on a daily driven rx7. i want to get in my car and it crank right up. thanks guys!

My car has about 158k miles on it. In the summer when cold, she starts up. The past winter here in Northern IL, she started up fine too, rough at first, but by the time she was warmed up things were smooth.

Now, when it was warm out. If I shut the car down and then wait 20 minutes or so to turn her back on, I might have a bit of a hard time. But as I have read I've heard that is a common feature among FBs. heh

All three start just by turning the key. No pedal required, no choke.

But now the blue 83 stumbles when it starts, then clears it's throat in 15 seconds.

My car tends to catch easily under all conditions, or occasionally, it will take a couple of cranks to get her going. My method is to give a pump of the throttle when she's cold, and if she's warm, just to hit the key.

Cold: Stomp pedal once, crank, on. Doesn't take more than seconds.

Hot: Crank, on. Doesn't take more than a second

My '84 starts right up. The carb is starting to grow a bit of personality, but nothing that needs adjusting yet

Cold/hot does not seem to matter at all. Turn the key away you go.

Cold- Pump gas twice, turn key, starts right up, if it's below 10deg then pull choke or else it'll die.

Hot- Turn key, starts in 1 sec.

Both of mine, one pump, turn key, car comes to life. Hot/Cold doesnt matter. My cars may not be the prettiest, but they are reliable.

well shiiiiiit! damn. i want my car to start like that again. i've been getting so bummed. i used to be all about carbs, JUST needed a boost in confidence about them again. lol i've had the thought of putting a fuel injected 13b in my car just because i have been so tired of all these problems which i thought were related to my carb. i'm not down for the count yet though!

Get a rebuilt one from Sterling and Rx7Carl... I'm sure you'll be happy. I've been trying to work up the money, cause I can hear it going sssshhoooooofffff when I hit the gas... sounds like a huge restriction to me... restriction=less power. Rx7Carl carb= more power. more power=

Mine started easily just by hitting the key when it had the stock carb hot or cold. I only used the choke to keep it running at lights and stop signs and stuff because it didnt idle cold, but once the choke kicked off, it was fine.

With the Weber (45 DCOE), I just pumped it twice, and hit the key. It started right up, and idled fine. You had to be a little gentle on the throttle until it was warm (no more gentle than you should be on a cold engine anyway), otherwise it would choke and die out, but it drove just fine. It started right up hot or cold, no matter what. It was a great carb. Never had any problems with it starting.

I had really hard starts till I replaced the pump diaphragm, now one pump/choke when cold, no pump warm,,,,,used to take several pumps and even a little gas poured down the carb to get started....b4 replacing the accelerator pump diaphragm.

It had one, but I never used it. Matter of fact, it wasnt even hooked up. BTW. the DCOEs have chokes, the DCOs dont.

Mine starts whenever it feels like it. Not having a choke is very unforgiving. It's unique how no 2 FB's seem to start exactly the same. We all have our own techinques and our cars pretty much only want us to start them.

Cold : 5 pumps 0.25 l down the carb.Keep it going for about 1.5 min (above 2000 rpm)
Hot,just turn the key,and it fires right up

Maybe its time to have a look at the accelerator pump diagraph ?

I have a Holley 600 No choke, and it will start as fast as you can turn the key!
