i was planning on porting my engine myself for a while but ive come to the conclusion that i want a really good port job so im gonna pay to have it done by a professional. if you plan to do a complete rebuild while you have it apart it could get expensive, more than 200 just for apex seals. but dont cheap out on something like this, save up and do it the right way. if youve never ported before i would suggest tearing the engine down yourself and sending the housings in and then rebuilding yourself. if your not worrying about getting it done right away and you really want to port yourself, get as many trashed housings as you can to practice on until you really feel comfortable doing it and your getting good results. im not sure of the exact cost of all the seals and everything, ive added it up before but that was a while ago. im sure someone else will chime in with the number.

Rb or mazdatrix sells complete kits ~900-1000. someone correct me if there is cheapers kits, i'll be in the market too! totally agree with practicing on junk plates. I screwed up 2 good intermediate plates the first time I ported... DOH oh well nothing a little lap job can't fix. Wanner if your in North Ohio I know a guy we're sending our plates to for some "touching up" I think we went too conservative, oh well

should be just a complete gasket set, sounds like all of the rotor seals and everything are fine. check here http://www.mazdatrix.com/b2.htm along with gasket mazdatrix says you need front and rear seals. hope this helps

you still need a rebuild kit. when you pull the motor apart you ruin all the seals.

Like they said, youll need the soft seal kit. When you take it apart you must label every seal and put them all back exactly where they were so your wear pattern doesnt change. Im porting an engine right now (my first) but I have alot of time with using the die grinder so Im comfortable with it. If your not confident, then practice on bad housings first. Also use a good template, dont wing it. Also study Judge Ito's porting school over on the nopistons forum, and pretty much everything in that section of the forum.
