How Much Oil?

How Much Oil does it take to do a regular Oil change on a GSL-SE?

Is it 4 quarts, 4.5 quarts or 5 quarts?

1) I don't have an owners manual,
2) I have a Cosmo engine
3) I have a GSL-SE Oil Pan
4) I have a Cosmo Dipstick.

I should have kept my GSL-SE disptick, to match
the GSL-SE Oil Pan.

GSL-SE Owners:
Please look it up and let me know.

Thanks!

Should the oil level, when full, be at the pan gasket surface at the middle of the engine where the dipstick is? The engine is slightly tilted, but I think the oil level should be right around there, or maybe a little above. Does that make any sense?

I just changed my oil and filter in my 13B 4 port. I put in 5 quarts exactly.

The amount of oil you use in an oil change can't be predicted very accurately by the total system oil capacity. In most cases, you can't get all the oil out, so a system with 5.8 qt capacity that needs 5 qts for an oil change makes sense. Why do you need to know exacly how much oil? When you change the oil, check the dipstick after the fourth quart and add until it's where you like it. I like mine near the 'F' -- more is better, the American way.

Check it again after you run the engine. It'll probably drop a little from that, too.

I have never exceeded 4.5 quarts on any oil change ever with a gsl-se. Most of the time 4 quarts works as it leaves it just under the F mark which is what I like.

Not that this really pertains to this subject but I once knew a lady who ran her car a quart low on oil because she said it was "good for it". Man some people are stupid.

I remember looking at this when I had my SE engine and T2 engine out of the car. Ended up the dip stick tube in the center housing is different so the dipstick needs to go with the center housing.

If you have a cosmo center housing I'd stick with the cosmo dipstick.

5 quarts is pretty usual. the 5.8 quarts remember includes the oil in the oil cooler, the oil lines, and oil filter.
