How to install preheat hose?

Do I have the right size or am I plain doing it wrong?

Due for a smog check, so making sure everything is there that should be there. Noticed I have lost my preheat hose. Purchased a 1 1/2 inch generic but can’t get it over either the air filter or the manifold. it’s very very close. Tried to expand the hose by pushing it over the taper of a funnel, and tried using a sheet of lighting gel as a guide to ease the lip of the hose over the housing… but no good.

Hose that was there originally had a slit on both ends, but am guessing that’s how it managed to fall off. And seems like a kluge to me.

This hose does nothing but help bring heat into the carb on a cold day, You wont pass or fail smog based on it.

I initially thought the same thing…. But when researching this forum did find one person that failed smog since the hose was missing on visual inspection.

Maybe cut a slit and then put a hose clamp over it to keep it in place? Since it isn't under any pressure it should be fine.

Since it gets cold here, i had the same hose as you, but i then bought another slightly bigger hose and doubled sleeved it. I have screw clamps on both ends.

it’s the only way I can get the choke to release once it dips into the 30s.
