How the hell????
How the hell????
im pissed... my friend owns an 83 gsl (set up: stock port, stock nikki, 10 mm plug wires, accel coils, rb header, and exhaust) i have and 85 gsl (set up: street port, holley 600cfm, rb intake manifold, rb header, accel 8mm wires, accel coils, exhaust, holley fuel pump)
so the story is we were driving home about 30 min. ago, and we decide to give it a little run and he beats me 1- 1 1/2 cars. i mean yeah my car starts to miss at about 6000rpm but i didnt think its that bad to were i loose like that... so what the hell is up with that??? any ideas?? should i get a smaller carb and some better tuning? bigger spark plug wires?? i was thinking of doing the gm hei mod?? what do you guys think???

That right there is one of the biggest reasons I don't care for the Holleys. Sure, the RB Holley may pull 10 more hp at the top end than the Weber, but winning a race is the total area under the hp curve, not the single peak hp.
If you're breaking up at 6k rpm, there are several things to look at. I'd start with wideband tuning to find out if it's ignition or afr's that's causing the breakup, then tune/repair/mod from there.

I have the holley 465 tuned on my car, and that pulls nice and strong. Raced a few stock cars and definatly pulls nice and strong on them. Its all about how you drive too. Personally i'll be going with ITB's soon and that will be the ultimate I think.

There's ups and down to everything ... it all comes down to preference. but the general consensuc is that 4 barrel is more streetable than 2, unless you go itb (individual throttle bodies) which is fuel injection, then that is usually the ultimate.

I've always thought that the 600 is a tad too big ... this is my dyno run:

As mentioned in that thread i would be able to squeeze more if i have better ignition as i'm running fully stock ignition along with leaner mixture ontop.

Tuning is the most important thing. You can have the perfect carb for your setup and still have it drive like crap if it's not tuned properly.
Get that car on a dyno with someone who knows holleys and a jet kit and go nuts.
Is it an RB holley? or just a normal one?
Dyno will also help you figure out if your ignition is causing problems. If you have stock ignition, I suggest you start by replacing everything: plugs, plugwires, dist cap and rotor, and see if it gets any better. Wouldn't hurt to slap a timing light on your car and make sure your timing is good.

You have to understand that I'm a "If I don't need it rip it out" Freak like I took out 3 full bags of just wiring that I didn't need, but it would be interesting. I need to get my car back on the road first, check out my other thread to see whats going on (Basic run: computer, new shell, changing all the interior color to tan, plus a few more things)
what really funny that i find is this one guy that I met somehow that I can't remember on msn, has a SP engine with a holley 650, stock intake mani, RB exhaust he's been to the dyno a couple of times now and all he can squeeze out is 109.53 RWHP and 95.81 FT-lb. Before i did my dyno he was saying that Iwouldn't score more than him because of his car setup. This is his dyno sheet. I really don't know what he's doing wrong but something is really messed up on his car.
i'd say his biggest problem is the intake he's using. now this makes me wish more that i had the money to make a few pulls on the dyno when steve was here tuning a couple weekends ago.
