Apply some duct tape to your air filter.

Assuming by "rex" you mean RX-7, the factory carb adjustment is to be painfully rich.

twigg,

you do realize that ******* with the mixture will cause problems right, try this one out. your OMP puts X amount of oil in the mixture, to lubricate your rotor houseings, and sliding surfaces. by increaseing the amount of fuel you put in without incresing the oils, you are diluting the oil, and decreaseing its lubrication properties. which makes your already 20+ year old engine wear out faster than it already does?

its just like when you flood the engine and it gets hard (impossible) to start, its becasue the flooding washed all of the oil from the sliding surfaces, and then they don't seal as well , casueing you to lose comression, and also increasing the wear on the houseings and apex seals.

stop worring about if your car looks cool or not ans concentrate on winning, winning looks cool, and it will casue you to backfire just from running it hard

That's easy, just make sure the air pump is always running air to the exhaust ports.

Rich doesn't make backfires. Air in the exhaust system makes backfires. You can't create an explosion without oxygen to mix with a fuel. That's why SA's pop and bang on the overrun, that's why exhausts with cracks/leaks will pop/crackle when you let off, that's why my '85 pops and bangs after I altered the ACV to pass emissions.

So really, lots of backfiring is a way to say "Look at me, my car is a raging POS/has a thermal reactor emissions system".

I just wanted to say: 9 views, 8 replies. This will make that 10 views 9 replies.

I find that *hilarious*.

kenn chan is right im asumming unless you premix which in that case you could add a dash more if you are running rich and need more lube

I agree with comradegiant - I'd kill for my car to not run as rich as it does right now!

The only way ive been able to make my 82 pop is by turning the key off, press gas pedal, and turn key back on before engine dies.

Amazing! All these respones but not one from the original thread starter?
Getting a engine to run " RICH" is not necessarily a good thing. Maybe what he should be asking is how do i get more HP out of my engine?.
Getting good hp out of an engine at the right time is very important. You do not want the engine to run rich at idle or cruising but when you get on it.
You need to get a denser charge of air into the carb. Which means fabricating a
cold air intake system into the stock air filter system.
Going with a carb from sterling or having yours modified will do more.
But remember you need to have other mods such as header system to compliment the a/fuel system. rx7doctor
