Everything is the same, from the beginning right up through the RX-8. My '75 Rotary Truck has a 1st gen RX-7 steering wheel and my 1st gen has an RX-8 steering wheel. It's about the one thing Mazda was consistent with.

Oh, but the turn signal canceler -- at some point -- went from a horizontal to a vertical orientation. You can just rotate it 90 degrees, if necessary, and they still work 'okay'...just not perfectly, as you may need to manually cancel the turn signal on less-than-90-degree turns from time to time. Really not a big deal, but worth noting. Some people see the canceler pins oriented differently and presume, incorrectly, they won't work in the other orientation. It's not even confusing, as you will see a round plastic deal with two pins that just happen to fit into two holes in the steering wheel hub assembly.
