All of my rotarys have started instantly. That's in 25 years, at least 6 cars. Carbed engines require employing choke.

As soon as a car shows the least sign of being balky I go looking for the problem and solve it. Better than ignoring the problem and having a bigger problem later.

Quick video. Carb I think isn't tuned for cold starts yet (it was on a half bridge before this), hence the low idle. Never touched the gas until I revved it up

Turn key on, pump twice, crank it over, give it an extra pump to bump the rpms up and pull the choke out, adjust it to 1500-1700rpms. If it's sat for a while it likes to only start on one rotor so I gotta keep the throttle up and pump it until the other rotor fires.

Pull the choke, crank for around 5 seconds and then let it warm up at 2K then put it in and go.

2 pumps, crank for about 1 second and it fires up. set choke at about 1000 rpms and away we go.

Here's the page from the 85 RX7's owner's manual. Keep in mind that the startng proceedure varies due to many factors. including but not limited too, c ondition of tune, ambientnt temperature, internal engine temperature, (i.e., how long since the engine was shut down), etc. This proceedure is for the carbed 12As. For the 13Bs, one should press the acellerator pedal to the floor, once, and release it to set the cold start assist linkage for the FI system.

I know we all have our on little tricks that seem to work for us, but this the baseline starting point, pun intended, for a carbed 1st gen that's in good operating condition with adecent tune,

Odd, whenever my engine is flooded I pump the ever-living-**** out of it. Of course, I pull the fuel pump fuse first.

when cold i pull the choke and give 1 or 2 pump and it start, when hot no choke and 1 pump and it start.

I have a question, when you start or turn-off your rotary engine (talking about non turbo 12a) is it true that you need to wait a couple of seconde in idle before starting and turning off? thx

for first start, lightly tap pedal once or twice and then turn key... mechanical choke on my holley 465 takes over from there

any start after that is just turn key and go, no pedals or anything
