How do you determine if your thermostat is still good?

How do you determine if your thermostat is still good?

I know it's only a $30 part, and just because I'm a cheap bastard.

My car is stock for the most part with a straight pipe.

do the t-stat test.

lol sorry. What you do is take it out, tie a string to it boil some water with it in there, and see if it opens up

the string being so you can take it out and watch it close again. Should be around 180*F, and to be honest i have no idea where water boils in F.

Know your cheap as are we all but i will say, if in doubt you should just change it because its an integral part of our cars cooling system

Yes but the thermostat is in a funny unit, something german sounding like fagrenheitntach or something like that.

But yes, you are right, my igloo freezes quite nicely at aboot 0 degrees (thats -32 for u peeps in the southern counties)

Damn, i wish he wasnt just below me on the map (assuming MO is montana)

easy way to tell is when your car doesn't want to warm up quickly anymore, AND you no longer get any good heat inside the car. It fails to the OPEN position so you also get poor gas mileage....
