From what I've seen the dash has to come out before you can actually get the whole carpet out in front properly. Not a fun task. I could be wrong, but I definitely know that underneath the centre console there are bolts that go through the carpet so those would have to come out for a start.

Remove the shifter, center armrest, radio and radio surround. Inside there you will find a U shaped bracket. That bracket is held down by 3 bolts going through the carpet to the floor pan and 1 bolt on each side of the legs of the U. Each leg also has a locking/indexing pin. Pry between bracket and the sides of the lower center part of the dash from the backside to make enough room for the pins to clear their respective holes

Removing the front carpet is a pita due to the bracket. Reinstalling is even less fun.

depending on the quality of the carpet... you can just rip it out.. or do it the correct way

the dash should be removed to remove the front section. the middle section can be removed once the seats are removed. and the rear carpet is one entire section that extends down to the bins and center carpet section.

Sorry, but removing the dash more than doubles the amount of work and it's not necessary. It does take a bit of fiddle farting around to R&R the carpet with the dash in but it can be done. Downside of removing the dash is the rattles that can show up once the dash is reinstalled.

When I gutted the widebody, all that was left was the dash and the wiring harnesses. Other than that, it was a shell sitting on jackstands. One has to be smarter than the carpet.

mmm i see. well i actually only have to take out the front carpet, considering the back was taken out by one of the previous owners and i only have the driver seat, so im guessing that cuts down alot of work for me. any other suggestions?? and trochoid, doing it your way without taking the dash out, is that gonna get me annoyed or frustrate me??

attempting to install new carpet with the dash in will get tiresome and frustrating. if there is another way to install teh carpet and leave the dah in and not cut the new carpet i am all ears!

The hardest part is getting out the 3 bolts that go into the floor pan, working space is limited. Try 1AAuto.com for replacement carpet and door gaskets. Re-installing the carpet does take some patience to get it to fit/lay right. As they say, "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right".

I actually just cut the section behind the center console down the middle and pulled it away from the center console so I didn't have to unbolt anything. Seems to have worked out fine and you'll never see the cut anyways.

the carpet is now out! it took a little while but i got it out! i ended up cutting it into parts. it was so much easier than trying to do it all in one piece. now i just have to get a new carpet.

The first time, taking out the dash is a PITA (trying to find all the bolts). After you do it once, it is a piece of cake. I pulled mine to replace the carpet and to also replace the harness that the PO hacked up. I got to pull the dash twice: once on my car and once on the car at the wreckers to get the harness/carpet.

I get to pull it again soon as I have a leak at either the heater core or the valve. I'll probably just replace both while I am in there.
