Exclamation How do I kill a Mazdaspeed Protege??

I really need the experts (12at guys) to step up and give me their blessing.

my friend just bought a 2003.5 mazdaspeed protege and it is a pretty fast car for what it is. he has about 170 hp w/ 180 lbs of torque stock. and now, he just put on an injen intake and hard ic pipes. probably @ 200+hp now

Now my question are:

1. by turboing my 12a from rotary shack, will i beat him?

2. " ", will i be smog legal

3. just give up the 12a and drop in a 13BT?

Keep in mind that i want to be smog legal.

I think 13BT would be a good way to go for HP and Smoke Legal. Just look at Steve Car I believe he is a 13BTII and smoke legal.

the 12a with a blow thru kit from rotary shack will WHOOP ALL OVER HIS ***!!! i rape these things all the time. they are not T3h fast. the 13bt would be the way to go if you seriously want to be smog legal, but that's alot more $$$. all in how much you want to spend.

Mazdaspeed Potoge's didn't come in blue...?
The '03.5s came in Blazing Yellow or Titanium Grey...
the '03s came in Spicy Orange

The Protoge MP3 came in Electric blue...

Plus the MS Protoge's don't have a badge there...

But that IS the correct Airdam for an '03.5

FBII is correct tho, they're not that fast. I whomped stock MS Protoge's with my GSL-SE with a ported motor and 2nd gen ignition upgrade.

I also doubt an intake and some IC pipes are good for 30hp... I'd guess aound 10-15hp... maybe 20hp TOPS.

The 12AT would be more than enough...

You could keep a stock engine/exhaust around for smog check time (or if you get a fixit ticket)...

I'm actually considering doing this myself. Heck, I could start a 'smog check drivetrain rental' service or something

No, it has the MS 2003.5 Airdam/front end. MP3's had a completely different front end.
It's just the colour and badge that make it look off...

How do you figure? Spev V's are quick, but they are not fast, you just think it's fast cause you have to shift more having that extra gear.

That's what I was saying on the other forum.

My buddy traded his spec for the speed and it feels slower.

You can get a nice spec V for 8.5k or a MSP for 15k what a tough dicision

Or you can build an FB with 10k, make it do reliable low 12's and walk all over both cars in handling and power. Very tough decision........ fwd, rwd, fwd, rwd, slow,fast,slow,fast.............hmmmmmmmm...pretty tough.

no i figured the MSP had more out of the box. the spec is rated at 175 hp 180 torque. but the spec is very limited on what you can do to make it faster. your friend will find that out and most likely get frustrated like the rest of us have. i love my car dont get me wrong but it is by no means the fastest thing out there. till third gear i is pretty badass after that it falls on its face HARD

LOL!
That's always been my choice.

I was explaining to my father in law that my GSL-SE is going to walk all over his wife's Mini Cooper S.

Hell, with the ported motor and 2nd gen ignition, I think I had the edge in a straight line(Those Mini's are SLOW).

He told me I'd never handle as well as the Mini, unless I spent a lot of money. I told him I could do it for $5k, and he wouldn't believe me.

Oh well, I'll just have to take him to the track next year...

^dam straight

I got beat by this 18yr old that his parents bought him a mustang GT. He was saying rx7's are suppose to be fast, so then I said my vert cost $6500 with the swap and it looks alot better than a stang, I wonder how fast $20k in engine/ suspension mods would make it People just don't consider the prices of cars compared to what you can build for the same price + feel alot more "at one" with your car cause you built it.

Exactly!
You can have the exact car you want. Looks, power, handling, electronics... it's all in you hands!

Sorry to go so far off topic BLOWNandTWISTED...

FB with a good street port put down around 200hp, with your superior power to weight you'll eat his Protege alive and most other cars also. Beware of poor quality engine builders though.

The place I'm having my engine rebuilt and ported at regularly builds 12a streetports that do 13.5 1/4's on street tires. They also build them right. No 10-15 month motors here, definately not emissions friendly though. For that you'd want a turbo.

the ONLY way you'll stay legal is with a t2 swap.

I own an '03 Black Mica MSP, an FC Vert and an '85 GS. Good ******* luck. MBC set at 15psi, hard pipes, SMIC and turbo back exhuast I'm pushing 213 HP and 231 lbs torque AT THE WHEELS. No torque steer, FWD with LSD rox@rz.

And who's the joker that said an SE-R would **** on an MSP? You're ******* kidding right? The have less HP less TQ at the wheels tock, worse skid pad ratings AND A ******* SOLID REAR AXLE OUT OF A 1987 DODGE CARAVAN. Get a life.

BTW, they did come in blue in 03.5. They had blue, yellow and silver. 03 Had orange and black.
