How to break into an FB (I own it)
You know, if you took a half an hour to explore the car, you could figure these tricks out yourself to be quite honest. I've removed the door panels to fix the leather and spotted things. I also removed the tail light to put in a power antenna, and when I had all the trim off the back of the car I saw even more interesting stuff...
Maybe it's worth the time to look, I mean, in case you ever do get locked out. It's not like we don't regularly have access to these cars to check them out

screw all the slim jim ****
what you need is a long flathead screwdriver, hold the handle up, insert the screwdriver in the hole towards the back of the door, move it untill you see the lock move, then when it moves, push up in a diagonal motion, should take you a total of maybe 5 seconds

The method I am thinking of does zero damage or other modification whatsoever to the car.
I won't come right out and say what it is, but note that the lock **** is in front of the lock cylinder.... and any rod that would pass between the lock cylinder and **** slants right past the door handle...

Telling someone how to break into a car on a forum isn't going to promote more FB/General Rex breakins... Anyone who wants to lift a car already has a clue how to do it, these aren't new tricks.
One thing that worked on many, many old cars, so I'm not saying for the rex, is simply a similar key, as someone mentioned earlier. Old lock cyls wear down and aren't so picky about them any more, and lock cyls for things like trunks are notorious for just not being as high quality as other cyls. Grab another key that looks really similar, try the doors, then the trunk.
Hell, if what I just said *actually informed* a thief on how to steal a car, he's probably too stupid to drive it.

Right, but we don't want to give someone the information needed to cross the line from "gee I'd love to steal a 1st gen" to "wow, now I can go out right now and steal a 1st gen!"

if a kid wants to break into a car he is goin to doit. this iformation is nothign new it all allready 0otu the on the magnificent internet. IMO you are really overreacting to this thread, its not gunna cause a huge rampage of kids busting into 7's. i doubt most punks are even interested in theese cars.. there plenty more appealing cars for them to take easier to steal etc.. this is jsut my opinion. take it as you will..
Damn, some of this woulda really helped me out last summer. I locked my keys into my car, that screwdriver trick woulda been much better. I used a nicely bent coathanger while pushing down the window to get a .25'' gap. I managed to get enough pressure on the pop up lock inside the car to be able to just pull it up.
dont go sticking screw drivers in the locks... there is a much much easier way to get into most cars pre 85ish..
ive changed all my locks to the round tamper proof ones.. but anyone could still stick a slim jim or coat hanger down the seal and get in just as easy.
and the ignitions on the rx7 are even worse than the doors.

Get an alarm. A loud one. Also, buy a NA blowoff valve

I respect your right to have your own opinion, but I'm willing to bed that time/kids/life experience will change your view

don't be so prejudiced... not ALL kids 13-19 are little ********* that like to steal cars and wreak havoc on the city at night...

ALSO, as unreality stated - invest the $150 Canadian to get an alarm, and the $50 canadian to get it installed... it's worth it!
AND don't think that because your car is old, somewhat beat up, and rusty and sounds like a lawnmower on steroids that someone's NOT going to steal it.... if someone's jsut looking for a temporary mode of transportation, they're not going to steal the car in town that'll attract the most attention and be spotted by the police the easiest... they're not going to steal the 2003 Celica with the Veilside body kit, 18" rims, and chrome galore... they're going to steal the rusted out old Ford pickup, or the '82 RX-7 that looks alright, and is EASY to steal...
My friend got his '86 Nissan MICRA stolen

Had I said "let me guess, you're another one of those know-it-all late-teen/early twenty-somethings who doesn't repsect other people's points of view" then yes, I'd agree with the prejudicial comment.
As it stands, I stand behind what I said in its entirety - it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

but, there's also a LOT of adults (older than 20) that steal cars... sooooo not saying EVERYONE is going to benefit from life experiences.... some people get even more screwed up. So how do you guess who's who? (Without looking at their profile

There are SO MANY WAYS TO BREAK INTO A 1ST-GEN IT IS SICK. I met a dude who claimed to have an RX-7 master key. We tried it in my car, opened it right up. A popular local method for breaking in is to pop the sunroof with a screwdriver - when I was first looking for an RX-7 back in '98 or so, every 1st-gen I looked at had a broken sunroof latch from being broken into. (This is why I generally leave my sunroof up) Slim Jims work easily. The screwdriver method.
Now, getting the car actually started is a different matter altogether.

Of course, an impatient thief will just break a window, get in, bash the lock cylinder off of the steering column (it works easy if you know just where to hit), and they're gone in sixty seconds. (sorry, had ta say that
)

Word choice and temperment (just like in person) can often betray a person's age. It isn't completely infallible, but I'm fairly certain I have him pegged properly. Just call it a gift I guess

I do agree though that there is such a thing as mature "kids" and immature "adults" - that just goes with being human.
