How to break into an FB (I own it)

Okay, so the car is locked in a parking lot and I feel like an ***. I was actually going in to copy the key. Anyway, what's the easiest way into an FB? I've got a slim-jim but it didn't prove too helpful. I could snag the linkage that the handle moves, but not the lock. I'm sure someone's done this, now fess up!

Try any other Mazda key from the same vintage. There have been rumors that the lock cylinders aren't too picky about the actual pattern of the key, so long as it's close to the original. Also, I heard that you could jam a pencil or pen into the door through an opening the door handle goes through. I've never tried it but it's what I've heard. Supposedly these cars were real theft-magnets when new and were stupidly simple to hack into.

It takes me about 30 seconds with a coat hanger.

a very easy car to break into. Peel back the weather stripping at the bottom of the window (carefully it is brittle) and you can unlock the door with a coathanger in 5 minutes.

yeah... I have a problem with disclosing certain ways in, such as the tail light method, on this forum, as there are guests... even though I suppose that any car theif that has any half-wit ideas of what he's doing could break into an RX-7 easily...

my caveman contribution.. If I ever locked my keys in and $hit came to $hit...(last resort kinda deal).. I'd go ahead and break a door window, I got a spare tinted set anyways ... door windows are soo cheap..your method may vary.

REVHEAD???? What's going on mate, why are you selling the seven?

On topic, it's pretty easy to get into....hmmm I'm having trouble posting this too. Someone recently broke into my seven, and from my inspection I think the knew the secret. I'd feel pretty bad if other people's car's were getting broken into because I posted a how-to. I lost a $30 sub, but it gave me an excuse to strip the rest of the interior, the only thing that pisses me is that the fucked the lock too.

Maybe someone who knows the exact details can PM FD-less with a procedure. I'm sure we can trust him.

I'd rather not go into detail other than it has to go. Rest assured I'll be buying another rotary straight away though. A Series 5 TII would be nice or I might go old school with an Rx-2, 3 or 4.

I think I remember this being discussed once before, and someone spilled their guts with like for or five methods. Did you try a search? I know there is worries of people figuring out how to break into our cars, but remember locks only keep the honest people out!

I'm actually pretty surprised about how paranoid you guys are. If a thief is gonna steal a car, he's not on this board. It's not like I haven't owned the thing for a month. Could someone PM me then, I just wanna get my baby back without damaging trim, locks, handles or paint.

message sent. They do have a point though. The last thing we need on this searchable board is an easy way for a miscreant to pull something up with google...

Paranoid or not?
Stuff like this should never be posted! (Publicly anyways).

Did the PM's stop working or am I missing something?

Well, I finally popped it open with no trouble, once I happened upon the right spot. Of course, I'll be shot if I say what spot that is, so I'll keep to myself. Thanks for the help, though, Pratch.

Heheh - no problem, but what if the instructions were on the web along with how to bypass the ignition lock and how to start your 7 without a key? Someone else could've beaten you to your own car

There is an incredibly easy way, works on most older Japanese cars (mainly Mitsubishi's but it works on 1st-gens as well) involving a screwdriver and less time than it takes to dig a key out of your pocket and unlock the door normally.

I don't know if I posted the how-to before. I know I've PM'ed it to someone.

For what it's worth, I got the idea from an issue of Car & Driver a few years back, so it's not exactly a secret.

I keep a hidden key in a magnet box in the same place for each car. Also, each car has a key for the other car in the ashtray: if the crook gets in and finds the key he'll probably break it in the wrong ignition lock, thus frustrating the slide hammer.

You might want to add keyless entry, available at kickyride.com.

I got into my S-10 the same way... works on pretty much any car with the lock cylinder "pressed and turned" into the door panel... IF I'm thinking of the same method...
