Hot start assist

In my continuing effort to get my car started, I've noticed the PO has the spring and lever switched on the Nikki (on the cable coming from the hot start assist). I might have to pull the carb to correct this, but (in the meantime) was wondering if this would have any effect on my starting issue.
The hot start assist motor runs as soon as I plug it in.

thanks,
Stan

The trigger wire is supposed to be connected to the terminal on the starter solenoid which leads into the starter motor. This is only 'hot' when the starter is cranking and off the rest of the time. It sounds like maybe your trigger wire is on the other terminal which goes straight to the battery, thus running the hot start assist motor.

I don't really know how the connection on the Nikki goes. Ask Ray Green. He is the stockmeister.

Thanks.
I'll see if I can trace that wire back to -always hot- somewhere and ask the stockmeister about the proper hookup...

the hot start, cruise, choke and throttle all have different cable ends. you can mix em, but they only really fit one way.

And this probably has nothing at all to do with your starting issues....

Yes, I'm thinking that too considering I can't ever get it running to get it hot (for the hot start assist to live up to it's name). I'm just looking at everything to see what goes where, including the choke, throttle and h-s-a cables. The choke and throttle are ok.
I think.

thanks,
Stan

the hot start assist isnt really needed imo, one of the few parts i take off, and chuck into the woods

they also like to fail, so it can cause an inconsistent idle rpm

So do you have any problems starting when the car is hot at all?
...cause the less complicated my carb is the easier it is to work on...

All it does is open the throttle very slightly during cranking. You can do the same job with your foot (and have more control). I don't use them.

Cool.
That's sounds like something else I'll put in the parts pile...

thanks,
Stan

my last carbed car would start WITHOUT that thing (it was bad) on a tap of the key, ie i had it in "start" for like 1 second.

if you look back a little, the rx2/3/4/5's didnt have these things, it was added on the rx7
