Hey guys, I built a fiberglass 12 inch sub box for my hatch that sits snuggly over the driveshaft bend in the storage bins. Take a look and tell me what you think. Its one of my first fiberglass projects. I can make a tutorial on building one. It took me about 5-6 hours, and 35-45 dollars of materials.

IMO if you went to the trouble of making a fibreglass box you should have made it more discrete, but it looks decent...

How many layers of fiberglass? Kinda looks very small volume wise for a 12". Fill it full of packing peanuts, then transfer them to a box of known volume to tell ou how much you have.

I measured it perfect for the reccommended volume of my sub, 45 liters of volume. I just tinted my rear hatch and windows 5 % limo tint

 

Interesting looking, but why did you orient it that way? I assume there must be some purpose. I dont undestand much about car audio. Thanks.

 

Subs have a very long wave length so you can point them any way you want to with out any real effect on the sound. Well as long as you dont bolt them face down on the floor.

 

It looks pretty good, and very different. All in all though, not bad. I've been thinking of getting into fiberglassing for speakers, but never really figured out how.

For some reason, I love banpass, so I think mines going to have ports. Atleast that way, something on my car will be ported.

 

Actually, you could. If you have a small spacer for the ring and basket to move without restriction on the sub, and dependind if it's a free-air sub...you could get away with mounting it right on the floor and still get some decent bass. It'd probably short it out because you're connecting it right to metal though...Lol. =P

 

the sub would act like it was in a "to small enclosure" it would not be able to move and would do almost nothing.

A free air sub is made to have an infinate Volume on each side of it, and has very good motor control to be able to pull this off.

 

The reason for pointing the sub towards the hatch, is because the low frequency sound is at its loudest at about 3 meters, and bouncing off the hatch and into your ears is roughly 3 meters, you can hear a huge sound difference from pointing the subs at you or at the hatch. I used 6 layers of fiberglass.

 

make the tutorial i have to make a cutom box but if i cant figure out fiberglass i would rather do that

 

I am thinking about glassing in a sub box into the box behind the drivers seat. Something small like an 8".

I am thinking about putting in a spot where I can store a bottle of oil in there as well. :P
