mark we cleaned the jets, we pulled the whole air horn assembly off checked all the air bleeds and everything, and cleaned it all out, still runs like crap...but when its warmed up still have to run it with the choke slightly out-i have it stuck pulled out using wire to hold it out like an inch- so yea and this is the stock 79 carb if that makes any difference, and as to the exhaust we got the heavy gauge tubbing for it and i might go with the magneflow pre silencers not sure yet though

are you getting enough fuel to the carb? have you checked the fuel filter?

If I may make a suggestion, Racing Beat now offers a universal presilencer in 2.5". That, combined with one of their 2.5" universal mufflers would probably make a pretty nice setup that should last.

ive been thinking....seeing as i have to have the choke out to make more fuel going into the carb...so clogged fuel lines perhaps or fuel pump, what would you guys suggest i look at first

couple spots to start

I would check the fuel pump flow rate and filter first. If your filter goes bad frequently you might have a rusted fuel tank.

Then try blowing out the lines to see if its free flowing. If you have clogged lines, you'll be using that pipe bender for a while.

Hmmm, that was like, 5 years ago, but good advice anyway.
