can anyone tell me if a holley 450 cfm is a good idea for a stock 12a with road race headers and will the stock fuel pump be enough?

 

of course but upgrade your fuel pump

 

You dont need to upgrade your fuel pump, but you should. Just remember a regulator when you do.

 

u'll need 6psi for the holley. just buy a 6psi pump and u wont need the extra cost of a regulator. it's what i use.

 

I bought my Holley Fuel Pump and it came with a complementry regulator.

We also ran a Supercharged 12A with a 570CFM Avenger on a stock fuel pump for about 10 years with no problems.

 

That must have been one tiny supercharger. Or the setup made less power than stock because the stock fuel pump is inadequate for even a stock carb but useable if you're not leaving it floored for very long.

 

It'll work, but get a Sterling instead.

 

Lots of people like the Carter fuel pumps . They're just kinda difficult to install in a 1st gen due to the shape. I found a spot for mine, but it is slightly tilted. Works fine though.

I'd say a Sterling will beat a Holley every time, simply for the tuneability, not to mention power, but I don't have a Sterling to play with at the moment. If however you have your heart set on a big aftermarket carb on a Racing Beat manifold, get an Edelbrock. From what I've seen of mine on the Camden, it is EFI-smooth and very pleasant to drive, even with an aluminum flywheel. Others who've used them NA really like them too. You don't often read as many positives about Holleys, whether supercharged or NA, but you do see a lot for the Sterling.

I concour on the edelbrock carbs. They are the cats *** for reliability and drivability. I ran one for awhile on an FC converted to carb. Worked better than the EFI.

I really really like the edelbrock 500 thunder series for any rotary, the 450 (465?) holley racing beat kit is also very good but tuning for the edlebrock holds better and is easier, and as for the sterling, I think this carb is a piece of
























art and would highly recommend it for any 12a application.

 

Hey, Tercels can be fast too......... if you swap in a 12A with a Sterling

Holley blue tap fuel pump and regulator and the 450 carb headers and your golden bro...You will be fine...Put the regulator between 6 and 7 pounds...
