Hinged front license plate ... unless you guys have a better idea
Well after being pulled over 3 times now for my front license plate not being visible enough for the po po to see, I have to come up with some new creative way to mount it. I have a mariah front bumper, and currently have the license plate zip tied to the front brace bar I think its called.
My biggest concern is being too much in the way that its going to block the air flow too much. So putting on my thinking hat, I think if I put on a hinge or two as I drive it'll flip up on its own and give me more air flow. What do you guys think? If not so good, what do you guys recommend?

If they don't see a license plate when your driving they'll pull you over. Regardless of whatever transporter like system you got. If you can make a bracket making it sit a little higher it won't block the airflow as much.

Double Ds for me to share
A friend has that style bumper and has his plate hinged, it folds up when driving and then drops down when you slow or stop. I have the same bumper coming and i'm going to hinge the damn plate as well. F**k the man, but yes it must visible while driving.

As far as I understand, California requires you need a front plate ONLY if the vehicle has provisions for it. My Seven never had a front plate on it and I never had any issues with it, also my Blazer lack a front plate also and the only thing I got nailed for was not having a rear plate at the time when I was building my rear bumper.

Arizona - no front plate required.
We can always tell the CA guys that move here, because they actually have front plates when nobody else does.
Also, ADOT doesn't even send you 2 plates anymore - cost saving measure for the state budgets. No complaints from me - it just gets in the airflow at the worst possible place, anyway.

Display of License Plates
5200. (a) When two license plates are issued by the department for use upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear.
(b) When only one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle, it shall be attached to the rear thereof , unless the license plate is issued for use upon a truck tractor, in which case the license plate shall be displayed in accordance with Section 4850.5.
Amended Sec. 27, Ch. 594, Stats. 2003. Effective January 1, 2004.

Enforcement is spotty and varies by local jurisdiction.
I've never put a front plate on my Z, and in 6+ years have never been stopped for it.
My -7 almost never sports a front plate. It goes on for some meets where I think the likelihood of PO activity is high. 20 years, never a ticket.
But more urbanized areas are more prone to ticket, because the red-light and speed cameras (read as LE ATMs) work primarily off the front plate.

cool so the hinged idea it will probably be then. We do have a petition about the front license plate removal going on here in ontario. Petition can be found here:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Ont_Front_Plate/
Here's what it says about it and why we should be removing front licence plates:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Ont_Front_Plate/
Here's what it says about it and why we should be removing front licence plates:
"Firstly, eliminating the need for a front license plate will significantly reduce the Province's costs associated with production, storage, and accounting for the additional plate. In 2004 the province of Saskatchewan joined five other provinces who no longer require a front license plate - reportedly saving the government $370 000 per year, while helping to reduce insurance costs. See http://www.gov.sk.ca/news?news...
Secondly, the front license plate negatively affects the efficiency of the vehicle by interrupting the aerodynamics with the plate at the vehicle's primary point of attack. Further, many vehicles suffer further losses in efficiency with the front plate's blockage of large portions of the front air-intake of the vehicle, resulting in increased fuel consumption, and increased greenhouse emissions.
Thirdly, unnecessary damage is sustained from minor bumper-to-bumper collisions, resulting from the front plate mounting brackets and bolts on passenger cars, which cause cracks and abrasions to the rear bumpers of the cars that they hit, which would otherwise be absorbed.
Alberta, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan and the three territories use single license plates. With Ontario's population greater than 10x that of Saskatchewan, the demonstrated tax savings for the Province would be millions of dollars per year, every year. In light of the cost savings for the Province, cutting greenhouse emissions, and other positive effects, we are asking that this law be repealed."

They've been doing those hinged plate holders in japan for years....flips back when above 50kph.
From what I understand, the cops don't like the plates in the front windshield due to the fact that in an accident, they act like guillotines and can do some major bodily damage.

Mariah actually used to sell the hinge kit for theirs. It you were above 20 mph, it would flip up. A cop could pull you over for no front plate, just play ignorant and tell him it's there. He walked around to take a look and viola, a plate! Since you arelady have the Mariah front end, call them to see if they still have the kit.

I took the rear mounting bracket off a parts car... bent it a lil bit... and bolted it to the bottom side of the front bumper using the 10mmm bolts that are already there to hold the bumperskin in place.
LOOKS LIKE IT CAME THAT WAY FROM THE FACTORY AND DOESN'T DAMAGE A THING.
