High Pitched Squeel on Acceleration.

Ok, just picked up my "new" Rx7 GSL (83). Any ways, it runs great, idles perfect, but when i get close to red line on acceleration there is a slight, high pitched squeel, sounds kinda like a wet belt slipping to me...but i dont know...it has done it a couple times around 3500-5000 on accelleration too. It has been raining today so that could be it, but could it be possible that a slipping clutch could cause this too? Any insight would be great. thanks.

sounds like a belt slipping. make sure the belt is in good condition, if it is try to tighten it. if that doesnt help try taking the belt off and scuffing the pulley with sandpaper.

It seems no matter what I do the belt squeels on my GSL at high RPMs. Mechanic says it is a slight angle problem. Oh well, the engine runs smooth as glass.

Do you still have the air pump or is it removed?

Im guessing its still on there...what exactly should i look for. My g/f's uncle bought it new in 84 and replaced the engine after 130k this new engine has 74K on it, so i doubt anything is missing, i do know that the rats nest is still there, lol. Runs great, the sound is high pitched like a belt, its not that loud, barely noticable, but enough to get my attention.

Yep, belt on pulley. Either that or your girlfriend really likes your car.
