High idle on start up

My car tends to idle extremely high on start up, it'll stick at around 3k rpms then it'll drop after sitting for a few seconds and die, it also has alot of trouble idling until i put it in gear and drive it, it tends to die, any suggestions?

Sounds like a fuel problem. When mine is just about out of fuel (I was/still am having fuel problems that I'm sorting out) it will increase idle and then taper off and die pretty quickly. It won't get very far if I put it in gear, it'll just sputter and die. Of course I'm also having the problem now of too much pressure and the carb floods and the car will sputter and die since it choked on its own gas. Pain in the butt to start up afterwards with that problem.

Check your fuel filter, fuel pressure, and fuel flow. Look at the sight glass on the front of the carb. It may be dirty so clean it off so you can see if you have at least half of it filled with gas which is where it should be. The rear sight glass is too hard to view without a mirror.

BTW, I use to go to Terre Haute every six months to help certify the clean rooms at Pfizer. When the wind blew just right, phew watch out

good luck. i've been fighting idle problems in my s5 and cold start/idle problems in my girl's se. i'd check for vacuum leaks. other then there, start running through all systems that affect the throttle like the cold start. you might have a solenoid not closing properly until enough vacuum is applied to it (driving/revving).

i hope you were joking because you should know taking the catalytic coverters out and revving it at redline that's what they do, it's completely normal
