high idle 1200-1600rpm
So recently I installed my Sterling carb and carter pump/holley regulator. I also removed the rat's nest and shutter valve. Now everything runs great except my car idles high (around 1200 to 1600 rpm) and when the revs start to fall while driving (like cruising slowly through town in 2nd) the engine starts to sort of chug and surge.
I tried adjusting the idle speed adjust but it doesnt really do anything.
Sprayed carb cleaner to test for a vacuum leak, nothing. I can't see anything obstructing the throttle that would keep it from settling to idle...
I dont know what to do

my car idles at 1500 aswell and if it goes bellow it just dies, at first it was idling at 3000 but i got it down to 1500. oh and my car wont idle at all if the choke is not out, it dies right when it goes in so i have to keep something holding it out.

you mean to test a leak? then no. they suck air in, not push it out. Spray carb cleaner on them and see if the engine speed increases. If it does, you've got a leak. So anyone for my original question?

just an idea....spray some cleaner around the butterfly shafts on the outside of the carb. My secondary butterfly shaft is sucking a little air (it was seized, needs a rebuild, got another on the way to send off to sterling when the time comes), make sure your blockoff plates are sealing properly. also check your timing

And yeah I'll check the timing as soon as I can get myself a light. Why would it change though? The only thing that could be changed (as far as I can see it) would be the vaccuum advance, which opens at high engine speeds/load, right?
Thanks for the help.
