Hey, I turned 10
<--- Wow, look at that! On desktop Chrome at least. It seems like 10 minutes ago that was a "5". Woo hoo!
Unfortunately I'm a bit rustier and certainly don't perform as well as I used to. :P

I had just moved and had no car (or job!). So I looked for an FB, I figured I'd use it as a daily driver and see how long it would last... I mean how many 'decent' 1st gens could still be around? I found one in OH that looked good in the photos, so I flew one way to go get it. It was like a time capsule (28K miles and smelled like the 80's in there) everything worked, only minor issues, the stuff that always breaks- first fix was the idler arm. My general idea to just use it like any other car quickly changed.
Then I joined this forum and was blown away with all of the enthusiasm surrounding these awesome little cars. There are so many excellent examples on this forum. It's unique in that you really get to know and appreciate individual forum members, their styles and their expertise. That you can get a part number or pointed in the right direction on a repair is great. But when somebody who worked on these gems can also tell you its history, stories of how they did it at the factory, experiments with upgrades and compatibility, well that's pretty amazing.

Damn, I guess I'm nearing 15.. But really probably only seven or so? I went 2012-2018 without an RX-7. My last one, 89 vert, pissed me off so much when to door handle broke I got rid of it. Stupid reason to get rid of it but morale was very low after a hail storm came through. Next owner totaled it within two weeks of having it. :C
Anyway, Thank you for all your knowledge that you've shared.

I've gotten so much more out this group that I've put in!
I bought my first FB in '86. It was a an '83 GS in Black/Burgundy. I even remember the guy I bought it from, a dude named Rene de los Santos. He was a military guy and had taken it with him to Spain and back here. He sold it to me for $7K, he needed money to start a restaurant.
I drove that thing to 130K miles and just loved it. In those days 200 hp was astronomical so the little 12A seemed like plenty. And compared to the handling of the '78 Malibu station wagon I had before that, the RX7 was a revelation. It started backfiring and I had no idea how to address that (no RX7 Club back then) so I sold it in '93 for $700. The kid who bought it pretty much immediately wrapped it around a tree. He was okay but that was it for the car.
