Help:won't shut down

Here's the deal. Swapped motors in an 85 12A's. Noticed the engine fuse under the dash was blown, changed it. Got everything running great except now it won't quit running when turning off the ignition. I can pull the 20amp engine fuse out and then the ignition switch works like it should, of coarse my fuel pump isn't pumping fuel then. I did notice also that the only dash start up lights that come on when the switch is turned on is the seat belt warning light. I thought they should all light up until the car is actually started. One of you electrical gurus have certainly come across this at some time. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Todd

Rogersville is in the Springfield, MO. I am also wondering about swapping my tranny for a 2 gen tranny. Do I just have to swap out the tail shaft?
I checked the ignition switch and the power to the ignition wire is hot when the key is switched on and no power when off, like it should be I guess.

I've had this problem with an 85 when the alternator wires are hooked up incorrectly. I Can't rember how exactly the alt circuit works, but in one instance instead of energizing a leg, you're putting voltage to the alternator, and it provides enough for the car to run, barely.

This was on a race car with minimal electrics, but its worht a look if you've recently worked with the wiring.

yep. i would check the alternator wires also. the plug. make sure it's not all the way in. sometimes if it grounds out on the alt. body the car will stay running. never cared to see why. just does.

Yeah, as said, the plug on the back of the alt needs to be plugged in. Its part of the same circuit on the inner fender well thats goldish in color towards the brake booster that says "choke and check relay" on it or something of that nature. Make sure the plug there is ok too. It also seems to me that when I had a "questionable" fuseable link I was having some weird problems with my dash lights also.

I will check those things out. I sswapped that main relay with another one, but don't know for sure if it was good. Is there a way they can be checked? Are these relays available at the local Auto Parts?
Thanks
