help sputtering at around 4-5k rpms
so i have no power after about 4 or 5k rpms.. i dont know cause the tach isnt working, as well as i have no spark on the triling side.... and iv noticed im usinig ALOT of fuel....help please..
pulled what? the coil? the igniter?
double check all your wiring first. could be something as simple as a bad ground. i see you have a few cars there so if it comes to it, try swapping the whole distributor for one that's known to be fully functional and take it from there ...

sorry haha motors, and coils... iv HAD alot i only have this one now... sadly... i just swaped everything over from a gs to my gsl, and when i did i lost alot of power.... but everything is the same! the gs even got realy good gas mileage.... and now thats its in the gls it bogs when it seemd that secondaries should being just about openeing AND TERRIBLE gas mileage...the wires are what scare me... this car had an alarn system with remote start... and it has caused sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many problems damnit! why ould you put an alarm system on a stock 85 7? like any one that was tring to steal it would even be able to sart it! haha
keeeeevviiiiin... CHILL!!!!
aahahahah i'm telling you the floats are over full. bring that baby up here and i'll set the floats straight and the power will be back and gas mileage will be the win.
as for the ignition we can re-wire everything but it's gotta be when i have more time. gotta finish the FD and one other project
For everyone reading tho: the wiring is absolutely destroyed. i have never seen such destruction of a harness... makes me have a sad face when i look at it, especially 5am after doing two engine removal and installs LOL!

Hey guys what’s going on? I am new to this. I have an 83 7 gsl and holy crap I don’t know where to start.
i had the car in hibernation for about two year because i wanted to preserve it for when i had the money to fix it up, then i finally decided to make it my everyday driving car.
I took it for inspection and it failed emissions miserably because I hadn’t changed the oil.
I got that done and took it for re-inspection and it failed HC by 17 points (something really small), with that I decided to do some maintenance work. During this time the car drove perfect.
I used carb cleaner to clean the carb out in hopes that it would helps the car out and run a little cleaner. The next day the car wouldn’t start at all, the problem was that the spark plugs were drenched in sludge so I got brand new plugs, a few week later I did the following things -- two new catalytic converters, monza exhaust system, new air filter, new fuel filters, sea foam in the tank and vacuum like, and fuel system cleaner.
The real problem is that after I used the carb cleaner the car bogs down like crazy, it will not go past 3k rpm during cruising speeds, even with the peddle to the floor, it sounds like its not getting fuel and the engine is getting really stressed out. Once I press the clutch and bring the rpms down to 2k, floor it and let go of the clutch, the car takes off the way it should and If I keep that up I can go to any speed but as soon as I ease up on the accelerator even a little bit, the engine has no power at all like its not getting any fuel, its very frustrating when I cant go past 60mph anywhere without feeling like the engine is going to blow up.
I checked the carb and tested it during acceleration, it seems that the primary fuel ports are dishing out plenty of fuel and the secondary’s are dry as an 80 year old virgin. I want to find a solution around the problem before I decide to take a major task of rebuilding the carb only to find out that, that was not the problem. The bogging down got even worst after I put the new cats and exhaust system in, so then I changed the fuel filter because the old one was horrible (so much restriction in it).
I don’t understand what’s going on because the car will go on hard acceleration but not cruising speeds.
Please HELP!!!! I don’t want to stress 7 out any longer.

I wonder if it's worse than mine? Mine was halfway chewed through by a rat or something, and I had to splice in a bunch of new wires. Looks really ugly, but most of the stuff I still have works now. Just a few interior lights left to troubleshoot if I can ever find the motivation.
