help rota is a lawnmower

i have just brought a 83 rx7 the car was running mint as i had to drive it home.
it had little trouble starting so i thought ill do a little service, new spark plugs, changed oil + new oil filter.now it would start instint so i decided to put the car around the back of the house where was shaded and wouldnt get ice on it as doing so the car putted out in the gargae i turned it over few times came to the conclusion its out of gas due to the gauage dnt wrk properly anyway.got some more gas and thought ild change the fuel filter as well.cranked it over over and over til the batiery went flat went to charge it and found that it was faulty damn.so i got a new one thinking itl spring into life but sadly now the engine hardly starts turns over sweet just wouldnt start.when it finally did go it sounds like a lawn mower hardly idleing and the engine was fighting around in the bey for 10seconds then dies turned it over few times got same results and everytime i touched the gas pedall itl make a shhh noise and itl die straight away.i have done couple days searching and tryed a few things,i have checked to see if all leads have spark which they all do but got a mighty shock off trailing 2 so i replaceed it with a spare lead i had.then i did the compression test i get three decent psst noises from both rotors which apparently means that they are fine.then i checked to see if it was gettin fuel which it is for sure.then thought maybe its my distributer cap i found that the trailing contact from the coil was pretty black from the rest gave them all a sand still no success. so could one of the coils have gone bung but still work could a faulty battiery cause damage or is it somthing to do with the distriutor or is it happend to get out of timming need help as im no expert on these cars so any ideas would be great
thanks for ya time sorry could of cut it a bit shorter

I love this fourm great to see ppl helpin ppl besides a little abuse hehehe
:c)

chances are you may have flooded it just a little (its everyones first mistake)
and i know if you let the engine sit it doesnt like waking up, sometimes a little oil can seep into the combustion chambers making it lopey.. just get her running and let it warm up some, use the choke to keep it purring, even if its at 1.5~2krpm
then drive the **** outta it.. it'll be happy then. (donuts are sweet this time of year...)

ok thanks for ya info much apreshiated im gonna find out how to de flood it now can u given me for information about checking the float bowl level as i dont have a clue on that bit

as i said before i have checked a few things like fuel filter"new" and spark
but lets say even if it wasnt flooded it felt like it was running on 1 rotor
i didnt say before but after i brought the car when it was reved between 3-6rev the car shudded like as if it was missing or was haven trouble rotating
does this make any sense?

and before it actually died it was idleing really bad that might of been just lack of gas

thanks any way cheers dudes

Sounds like a blocked fuel filter issue or a vacuum leak.

If the fuel ran out the filter definately needed changing. To jump start I pull start the car behind another car and keep it dragging in gear after it starts for at least 100 yards, then hold the throttle down at 2500 rpm for a minute or so to clear the crud out. If you want to make this easier, remove the plugs, turn the engine over a few times to expell the fuel, clean the plugs (brake cleaner works great for this) then replace and try again.

Fuel filters are cheep, and its not unheard of the get a bad replacement so I would still consider this, to check remove the fuel line from the carb,(the one without the aluminum check valve) turn key to on and fuel should pour from hose.

ok cool im gonna try expell of fuel but sadly i dont have some one to tow me sounds like this a nessecery thing to do to get that crud out. yeah i have tryed the fuel test and yes lots of fuel filled my bottle up
so maybe a vacuum leak is there a way to check for this any little tests?
on other threads pepole were pointing towards the leading ignitor would this come to play in my part? and how bout this float bowl issue
thanks

Just to be sure here, have you verified that you have good spark on the leading (lower) spark plugs?

my tach needs to warm up when its cold out before it posts accurate numbers (if at all)
and its gotta be a twin field coil design, so no return spring. warm up the tach before scrapping it.

Yeah if its on the colder side where you live the tach will be really slow or not move at all for awhile until your car is warmed up. Then again I never used my 7 below -10 deg. C so if its colder out then that i don't know what it acts like then.

As for being hard to start or no start, I had that problem with my 81 that I bought, one of the ignitors wasnt working (which I never knew at the time). So i messed around for a day or so trying to get it running to get it home. Eventually i found out it was the damn ignitors so I switched them with each other. It started but it took awhile (car was sitting for who the hell knows how long), and when it was warmed up it would start good and easy but when it was let sitting for awhile it would be hard to get started and keep running until it was warmed up.

Have fun gettin her running perfect.
