help no spark
ok so i dont know if im being dumb or not but i have been working on my car all day and i know that there is no spark on my top plugs i have changed the coils and still nothing any ideas or questions would be great
Do a search for 'ignitors'. They are black electrical boxes (small) attached to your distributor. There are 2 of them - one for Leading (lower plugs) and one for trailing (top plugs). If your tach works currently the ignitor is most likely not the problem.
i figured i should explain what has caused the car to stop running. so i was driving from tacoma to portland and stopped at the chevron to get gas. i locked my keys in my car with the lights on. finally broke into my car and drove off went about 20 miles and then the car bogged out on me everything worked and the only gage that was weird was the oil pressure also when i pressed on the gas nothing happened.
You have two coils, one for leading and one for trailing. Maybe the trailing coil went out. You can try to swap the leading and the trailing coils. Then if you have spark on the top spark plugs, then you need to buy another coil. Good time to upgrade coils. Go ahead and change them both, or you could place the good leading coil in the trailing position, and upgrade the leading coil, as that would give you the best performance with only one new coil.
If you place the leading coil in the place of the trailing coil, and still don't get spark, check to make sure the coil is getting power. If everything checks out, then it is most likely the ignitor like IanS said. Those go out all the time. Buying them new can be very expensive. Try to find some used on the forum, or try ebay. I am pretty sure that it is the same ignitor can be used for the leading and trailing, so again, you can try to swap them and see if you get spark on the trailing plugs.
If you're ignitor is bad, and you don't want to replace it, you could also consider going with an MSD ignition box. You can search for tips on installing it. That would bypass the need for the ignitor and it would also boost performance slightly.

Thanks, they are getting pretty affordable now. I picked it up in 2009. It is a fully loaded 06 GT. It only had 3k miles and I got it for 17k. It's all stock though. Every time I think i'm going to buy something for it I end up spending the money on my RX7.
Let us know how the progress is going. Good luck getting her back on the road.
