help with muffler install

Ok so i get my power pulse muffler in and i cant wait to put it on so me and a bud start working away. But we ran into a problem right away. We tried to remove the heat shield so we could get to the connection of the stock muffler but the two middle screws on the heat shield wont budge. They were totally stripped to begin with and they hardly fit and size socket or wrench. ive sprayed the stuff with wd40 more than enough times and still nothing. If someone could give me a tip that would be awesome because i dont know how much longer i can stand to see my new muffler sitting in my house. Thanks and God Bless

Heres a tip. Chisel and hammer. **** the shield!!! If the bolts are as rusted as mine they should come off with no problem.

You can either cut the shield off and throw it away or get creative with a grinder and/or drill to get the bolts out. If you choose to get it off in one piece you are more patient than I was. I actually took a hack saw to the muffer just to get it off the car. The heat shield just adds weight in my opinion. If you are parked over something that is going to ignite just b/c it is hot then it wouln't be smart to park there no matter what.

this thread has motivated me to go get out the hack saw. screw the muffler. (but i gotta save my straight pipe, so i'll be a bit more careful to get it out of the car)... long story, but I gotta take both off in order to "pass" the safety inspection

it's actually kinda hard, but it was fun... I hacked from the bottom up, and when i got about a half inch into the pipe, I used my right foot to prop up the muffler so it didn't clamp down on the saw. once I did this, sawing was very easy, and i just kept it propped up till the end (the end gets a bit dicey, don't be afraid to get a little agressive)

haha yea, I replaced the whole exhaust at once, so I basically cut it in 3 places and ripped it all out. I was careful not to mess up the studs for the manifold and also the hangers, but that was about it. Man the pipe coming off the manifold to the first cat is thick as hell, I never saw an exhaust pipe that thick before.
