Help Me!!!!
So either God hates me or he doesn't care, or he doesn't exist. So I'm driving today and going around this corner. Kinda fast but nothing crazy when out of nowhere the *** kicks out and nails the curb. Fawk I just got these rims. So the rim is pretty curbbed, but they should be able to be fixed. Well the car is wobbleing really bad! It becomes unnoticeable above 45mph. I took off the rim when i got home and noticed that the brake disk is rubbing on the calipers mount. After inspecting the axle housing realy well it looks fine, but there is absolutely no play in the tire assembly at all. So I'm thinking that the axle is bent. Hope fully the rim is not. It looks fine, but I can't tell. I need Help. This car is my daily driver and I drive about 100 miles a day with the car. I don't know what to do. Also I'll prolly need an axle for an 83 GSL. I know that's the weird rear end and I belive only 83-85 axles will work. SOme one please help and tell me exactly what axle I'll need. So I can try and get to a junk yard tomarrow.
Put the rear end up on jackstands, start it up, put it in gear and look for the wobble. Then switch the wheels from one side to the other. If you have a wobble on both sides, the second time, both the rim and axle are bent.
Iirc the 83-85 axles are the same. Just make sure it has the same brakes, i.e. drum or disc.

Yeah, check to make sure the axel IS bent before going any further.
BTW... About god hating you...
I'd start thinking more like Karma... maybe you could try being a tad more diplomatic around the forum? I'm not saying I disagree with your opinions, but you do come across a bit harsh sometimes...

welcome to snap oversteer.
as far as the axle goes IIRC the 83 and older axles are the same and the 84-85 axles are larger. and from 83-85 they used a larger pinion flange than the 79-82 cars. at any rate i have an axle from a 83 gsl sitting in my garage if you cant find one locally.

I'm sorry about your friend.
Seems like a good way to honor him.

Actually I think I've been here longer...
I was member #2008 I think...
As for my car, she had a bit of a rollover in May
So Karma owes me one I figure...

So now I'm in the midst of planning a new build-up...
(hence my post in the "every bolt" thread...

Welcome to the wonderful world of having an '83. It could be either axle, as they changed to the later stuff as they run out of the older. Production date may help to determine which one you have, but the only sure-fire way, is pull it out and match it up.
I am currently undergoing the driveshaft dillema, as I have an 83.

Here is the info that helped me. I hope it helps others as well. I suggest all who read this and find it helpfull write it down. lol
79-82 = small axle, small companion flange
83 = small axle, large companion flange (the "'tweener" year)
84-85 = large axle, large companion flange
The companion flange is what the drive shaft bolts to. If you have the "wrong" one, then you can swap in the other driveshaft. If your axle size doesn't change, you can use your old pumpkin in a replacement housing, regardless of the stock companion flange size. So, if you have an '83 (large companion flange but small axles) and can only find an 79-82 axle, swap out the pumpkin and you can use your stock driveshaft.
