Help identifying this plug

Since the rats nest was removed, I've been going through and taking out the extra plugs and wires n whatnot. The rats nest side is gone completely except for this round cylinder sensor thing, not sure what it is or if it's necessary. But on the other side of the carb, I'm starting to go through that side and theres 2 black plugs plugged into each other labeled XA3, one wire is black with a yellow stripe and the other green with black stripe. I'm having a hard time finding it in the schematics, not really sure where it goes... Could someone help me identify these and the sensor thing??

Older cars have these to help cleanup the noise in the electrical system. Have you ever heard a radio with a whinny sound. Some folks say they have removed it will no ill effects.

Yes the round thingy is a capacitor to eliminate RFI (radio frequency interference). Leave it connected. It won't affect the way the motor runs but you'll get "static" fuzzy sound on the radio without it.
Will look at my stripped-down harness tomorrow and see if I kept that black plug. All the other carb plugs I removed back to the harness-connector-block near the firewall.
*edited out some rambling.

Second pic is the the connector plugs where they attached to the rat's nest. Removing them properly is a little more complex than removing the actual rats nest an involves unwrapping the entire harness.
Third pic, I think I left that because I wasn't sure what it did. I had the entire under-hood harness apart and it just sort-of came into the engine bay, and went back into the firewall. I left it alone.
did you remove the stuff all the way back to the emissions control or did you just go to the firewall? I found the black plugs in the schematic, looks like they go to the ignition, but not sure why or for what..... It redirects you to the ignition switch diagram and looks like it goes into the starter?? or the inhibitor switch??

Does anyone know or know how to read the schematic??. I can follow the wires in the schematic but I get lost "decoding" them...

Oh sorry, I thought those were the rat's nest plugs when I read this earlier. What are those, the carb plugs? Yeah I took those wires out all the way back to the big connector block near the firewall. Didn't touch any wiring inside the cab.
I'm having deja-vu or something.... there's another thread just like this going on currently.

yeah these are the plugs for the carb, everything but those two black plugs is figured out. Where's that other thread at? I'd like to take a look....

You're gonna make yourself crazy looking over those schematics. The under-hood wiring harness you're trying to strip down doesn't have anything to do with the starter or ignition switch (circled in red). Its just for all the rats nest and emissions on the carb, plus a few sensors on the motor (temp, oil pressure, oil level, rfi capacitor,.... alternator). About 7 wires that you actually need after the carb and rats nest are stripped.
I give you props for trying to do it right with the schematics and all, but like I said, you'll make yourself nuts looking at that.
Just looked at my car, and that black plug is removed.

Yeah there's about 30 wires in that harness and if your rats nest is removed and nikki is stripped, you only need about 7 of them to keep all sensors, alternator and guages/warning buzzers operating properly. Everything else was for the emissions bits you removed.

I think the other thread I referenced was called "Where are the wires". Guy was trying to find where the oil pressure and water temp wires went. We talked about the harness you're dealing with now.

I had gone through and cleaned up my harness. Tested it all out and glad I did this. A plan is important. I am running a stand alone ECU so that was the agenda for my harness mods. Study the schematics. I printed diagrams out and traced with highlighters to make sure i
understood the circuit.

that's impressive being able to bench test everything like that! wish I had the know-how, but I guess you have to start somewhere...

Just took these for ya. The second pic has an unused plug branching off next to the alternator connector. That's where the stock choke ****'s temp sensor plugs in (the yellow jacketed sensor in top rear of water pump. I no longer have the sensor or stock choke ****, so it's not doing anything and I could remove it. Then I'd only have 7 wires running over my engine (I think there's about 9 right now). I kept it at the time because I had a Holley carb with electric choke. I took a jumper off of it ( "ignition-on hot" ) for the electric choke coil.
