Aftermarket fans are nice and all but some of the OEM fans you can find at junk yards are just as good and alot cheaer. My ford taurus fan is a 3 speed monster. The high setting almost draws 60amps and definatly cools better than a black magic fan. (thats installed on my 2nd gen though)

Ford escort electric fans fit perfecty into 1st gen the fan schrouds. A little trimming and a few pop rivints and it looks like a factory install. Just a suggestion...

Do the taurus fans fit in the 12a schroud as well? I just bought a 12A and plan on an electirc fan swap soon... Also did you have to upgrade the alt. with the taurus fan? I had to on my 2nd gen. But it had a buick alternator and alot of other electronics on it... I have AC as well as a 500 watt stereo.

I know the 12a' hae a 50 amp alt, so I guess my question is how many amps does a 12a draw with all accessories turned on?

Thanks...

I built my own aluminum shroud so I could locate the Taurus fan where I wanted, I also run a three core radiator and got rid of the A/C so its all clean airflow. Works great, probably overkill but the mods continue...

Same Fan I have. Black Magic 180 - More CFM than the old 150.
Ridiculously quiet, & Fits Perfect (with minor trimming to the shroud)
However, I had to turn my fan around because
it came backwards from the factory for some reason.

You could've mounted that fan controller somewhere less
intrusive though.

Where'd you get the radiator? How Much?

Ron Davis... I like to call him Mister Radiator. http://www.rondavisradiators.com/ His are a work of art. They are available ready to bolt on a 1st gen through Mazdaspeed/Mazda Competition by way of Anthony Woodford Racing. http://www.awrracing.com/pages/cooling.html

Back on the subject... my Fiero fan went out yesterday. Gotta put back in the old stocker til I get the Taurus fan fitted right. A Ron Davis radiator with twin SPAL fans or a Black Magic will be my route when the rebuild is done.

Let me know how that fits! I know I used an escort fan on my TII. With a little trimming it fit directly into the factory schroud, slapped in a few pop rivits and it looked like factory orig.
