HELP: Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge

I have a 79 Mazda RX7 and I am wondering how would i go about installing an air/fuel ratio gauge? (I think it would be especially nice for making sure you did your tune-up right) As this could be my problem to my smoking and backfiring at the moment. What brand to get? Where? and last but not least, How? (instructions, and illustrations would be most helpful)

Thanks!

Take one of your down pipes or manafold and tap it for an O2 sensor. The air/fuel gauge attaches to the wire from the sensor. The seonsor would be a one wire one, so its easy as cake. A muffler shop can weld a bung ontp you pipe for minimal $. The only hard part is getting it off.

so to do this i need to cut a whole for some random picked O2 sensor in my exhaust manifold and place it in there? would this be something you would recommend? Cause maybe a air/fuel gauge would be something i want in my center console ? cause i believe i have room for 3 gauges on this console. any other suggestions or information ?

I don't know man, you might be better off using that money to fix the problem rather than to buy a guage that lets you watch the problem. If you haven't upgraded to direct fire ignition yet, that would be my first suggestion. Also, have you set the timing yet? I always check those two things first when smelling rich or smoking.

yeah i set the timing.. replaced the breaker points, rotar, distributar cap, wires, plugs, oil, fuel filter.. but i did a no-no and messed with two different flat head screwdriver settings. one is on the engine side of the carb(think its the air mixture) and the other is on the front bumper side of the carb (which had a plastic gaurd on it.. thought it was the idle rpm control). can you tell me how i can accurately reset these ?

Tomorrow I am checking for vacuum leaks. Im gonna run it at idle and spray all my hoses and what not with starter fluid. and see if i can track something down.

i would appreciate any kind of assistance.

Better ask an expert about those screw locations. I'm not familiar with the early models. But yeah, if you messed with those then that explains the smoking/richness problem.

Wow, you take things hard. I have a GSL-SE so I just replaced mine it with a Bosch single wire O2 sensor. You can place your gauge where ever you want. My gauge is in the center counsel with water temp and oil pressure.
Remember, you never ask where should I put my gauge, you asked how do I put one in. Thats what I told you.

you are wasting money on that light show gauge. it wont tell you jack ****. it's the most inaccurate gauge you could put on a your 7. use the money for something power increasing.
