Exclamation !Help!

I am a new Rx7 Owner I've owned the car for about 5 months with no serious problems.. I have 2 problems now first of all I belive my gas tank is rusting out I have to replace the fuel filter about ever month or so... I just changed it today and when I poured the gas outta the old filter it was a copper color... 2nd problem I am having is a rough idle... when I start the car it idles rough at about 1k rpm once the car warms up on decelartion it will idle down to 1.5k rpm and idle smooth there other times it will go to 1k rpm and idle rough... Any Idea?

Might want to get a new gas tank to begin with Or you can try repairing the current one, probably easiest to get a new one. After youve done that, go from there.

yeah get a new tank, and get it rust-proofed(i forget the brand name). then rebuild the carb, as it has probably clogged with all the tiny stuff that made it past the fuel filter.

You might try draining and flushing the tank, before you spend the money on a new one. It might be best to just drop it and check the condition of the inside to see if it is in good enough condition to be renewed, then go from there.

POR makes a fuel tank cleaner and sealer. did it for my 80. Tank obviously has to come out At least yours has a drain so you can get all the fuel out first! Carb might need a rebuild or some degree of dissassembly to get the gunk out? I know people on the Forum do it all the time, though personally I wouldn't dream of tackling a carb. Too many dinky-easy-to-lose-parts-and-how-the-f*ck-does-this-go-back-together scenarios. I know pbandjracing.com rebuilds (and modifies!) RX7 nikki carbs. Check their site.
good luck

Forget the tank, go fuel cell. it would help keep alot of gasses from evaporating. then you would have to open your hatch to fill up. which would freak people out when you add in the two stroke oil too.
