Heater Blower Restoration w/ Photos

Taking the lead set down by this 3rd gen thread
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...photos-993190/

I decided this was necessary after finding a mouse nest in the core. Darn things made taking the dash out to disinfect everything sort of a must... every vent, the fan blower, carpet and all soft goods have to be steam cleaned too! Joy.

Here is a pictorial walkthrough for the series 2 FB heater blower.

Continuation of this thread:
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...hotos-1101689/

Here’s what I used for the foam for the blower with McMaster part numbers.

8647K22 Weather- and Abrasion-Resistant Foam Sheet, Blended EPDM, Ultra Soft, 3/16" Thickness, 42" WD, 1' LG
93695K54 Oil-Rst Fire-Retardant Blended Buna-N Foam, 50 ft. Adhesive-Back Strip, 1/4" Thickness, 1/2" WD

It helps to have a shop vac handy to clean up the eraser boogers and old foam dust.

Pop off the spring clips around the edge, including the small one.

A peek ahead, here's a recreation of how to get the blower blades off. Use the nut to push against and pop off the fan blades. There is a washer behind the blades, picture of it later for reference.

A peek ahead, I didn't know this part could be removed with two screws with the resistor still attached.

Ready for glass bead blasting.

Got everything all set and ready to go to shoot gray…

The darn thing didn’t spray at all, just dribbled out, since the metal was bare and clean I decided to use the only other color in the house.

Remember proper ventilation! I did not and had blue stuff everywhere.

Making a new gasket to replace the old one, using the same black foam sheet as the flap.

The existing foam was in pretty decent shape, decided to replace it anyways.

Scrape as you pull up, otherwise the foam tears and leaves a lot more stuck to the flap. I ended up using lacquer thinner to clean up the remaining foam, just pour it on and wipe (scrub) away.

The washer on which the blade sits.

Line up the flats and push it on, it should sit flush like this.

The screws bottomed out tight, even though I used a thicker gasket material.

I wiped the spring clips down with anti seize since they were so rusty. Could have blasted them and painted, but this should work well enough.

Parts catalog, body index, 80-83, schematics!

I forgot one gasket around the resistor, that's easy enough to pop the assembly back in half to add.

Hope this helps others. The evaporator will be done in the future, but not soon.

What, no love for the blower? On the plus side I did find my evaporator over the weekend. Looks simple enough that I can pull it apart and get that one started soon. I think it is a sanden type.
