Headers

i recently put on a dual outlet header on my 12a 7 and im not sure if its suppose to sound like it does. its the most annoying sound to me. sounds like a weed wacker but about 20 times louder. is that what its suppose to sound like?

well did you like how it sounded before, i.e. is it drastically different than when it had no headers, because it might just be how its always going to sound.

well its pretty horrible. it sounded good before headers attached, then its just too loud, not a deep sound like i like it. i think it just may be i need a different muffler.

the system is straight piped w/ 2 1/4 inch its stock port.

a muffler would help a lot though, and a resonator or pre-silencer.

if you want low just get the complete RB system. Sounds damn good for the price. And sometimes on here you can get a damn good deal on the whole system.

Don't feel so bad I've got the same thing right now I've been told its the fact that its two seperate pipes, I've been building my own header for my 81 and it wasn't quite finished when I had to get the car moved so I put it on and fired it up and it had that same sound, that is, until I spun the RPMs up and then it sounded ALOT better.

the stocker helped cancel out some sound waves and because the header is two sepperate pipes, it causes the sound you hear.

The car is practically a 2-stroke motor. It's going to sound like a weed wacker, chain saw, dirtbike unless you muffle it somehow. Straight pipe does nothing to calm the harsh noises coming out.

But it does make annoying the neighbors ALOT easier.

RB muffler is about the only thing that is gonna get rid of the weedwacker noise and be able to cut decibls to acceptible levels.

That sound, is the sound of an uncorked rotary. You either love it or hate it.....

And about 30 of those uncorked rotaries revving at 6,000 RPMs sounds like a very very large swarm of angry bees ready to destroy anything in their path. It's so beautiful LOL

I'm confused. Is this just a header with a stock muffler? I've had that combo. It sounds like crap. A larger muffler will give a lower tone and reduce raspiness. Too many people use small straight through mufflers that sound bad and muffle horribly. Use a larger muffler that is non straight through such as an oval Dynomax superturbo. Don't worry about fiberglass packing. I've used them for years. It works fine at the back of the car. You'll get good noise control, it won't hurt you in the power department, and it won't sound raspy. Larger mufflers can give the engine more of a low end hum. The smaller the muffler, the more it highlights high end frequencies. Anyone at Sevenstock last year who heard the 13B Lola LeMans cars can tell you that they had a very nice powerful sounding lower tone to them. They also had decently large mufflers.
