has anyone done the 4x4 conversion...LATELY??

iv read all the other post but from what i have read no one on here has actually done it. after readin all those post i told a friend of mine (and i live in the south...everyone likes 4 wheel drive) and hes willing to go in with me money wise to 4x4 a fb. nothing that will look pretty we just wanna see if we can do it. but i figured i would ask to see if anyone has done this lately...or looked deeply into it?

also dont say anything like get a truck...or put it on a truck frame... we WANT to see if we can make it happen ..its just a challenge (with a really cool outcome if it works)

thanks

Brad

He specifically asked you NOT to say that, rotarysuzuki.

AS far as I know, nobody has seriously looked into it for a long time. There are only a few out there to begin with, and I believe they are all rally cars.

Yeah, traction would be good, but you'd have significant parasitic loss thru all the gears i would think....

or am i wrong?

it's definitely possible, but 4X4'ing an FB w/ stock tranny is a no no.. you would only create stress tensions w/ all the load that it will transfer

you might also wanna go the v8 swap route as well

well my plan right now if get a fb...and a 626...and see wut works...make wut i need to get the front end in. then start lookin into trans/transfur cases. im not goan start this till after i get my 12at in my car. so by then i should have a nice chunck of money which im thinkin a rather cheap skyline driveline...or wrx/rs(REALLY PRICY THO)

alot the 4x4 truck guys were sayin that in there trucks in 4x4 there top speed are like 55..and that aint cool so im defently goin with a fast awd car driveline.

right now me and him are just spitin out ideas..were both in projects right now so were gona wait till after the summer.

thanks

like out of an AWD Eagle Talon TSI, you could use the turbo'd four banger out of it too, if you could find a way to mount it. The engine can kick out some pretty nice hp.

edit: jinx, i love your avatar and sig.

look out with the dsm route, remember that those are transversly mounted engines = major fab work and it only may work, if your going to do a whole tranny swaplook to subaru, longitudally mounted, same as the beloved rex, but expensive as hell, however it will take abuse, don't know if they would fit a 12a though

Actually, almost all of subaru's trannies are even weaker than the will power of a dieting woman in an ice cream parlor. Even stock WRX's break trannies like they're going out of style.

Yes it can be done!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone wants to do this setup..i have the tranny, Bellhousing, and both driveshafts for the project.. Gearing is 1 to1 on this tranny...

I will let it go for $500......

It will bolt up to any 12A or 13B..Requires a turbo clutch, and flywheel.. Or i can shim the bellhousing to fit any 12a or 13b NA flywheel.

You will have to do some work on the rx7 floor.
Alos you will need a front strait axle from a 84 and older 4wd toyota truck and shorten it.

You ,may have to lift the engine about 5 inches to clear the front diff and keep the same ground clerance..

I was planning on doing this myself for a while and put all the parts together but since have lost storage and time.

Either way this would be real cool

What the hell .. QUIT TALKING SUZUKI !!! He wants to 1) keep the rotary 2) keep the mazda 3) KEEP THE WHOLE CAR EXCEPT MAKE IT AWD ! That's the big problem here ! :P I'm sure he though of slapping a rotary in something else, but that's not his goal ... AWD FB !!! the FB meens keeping the FB body !! :p

I always wanted to hook a rotary up to the Nissan ATESSA system. Something like an BNR34 driveline and computer with a slightly stretched FC body on the outside, and a home built four rotor. Not that its feasable mind.
Drivetrain out of a Justy 4x4 might work.

Well I think you could use a skyline GTR gearbox and modify the sump to make it same system. Then it could take some serioues (20B) hp...
