I have done many posts on the smogging of our cars and what to do before going in. I'll see if I can find a link for you. Also you might want to do a search with the key words denatured alcohol.
As far as your original question on the CRC stuff, I have not personally used it but I believe it has a alcohol base in it also.

Here are a few links that I found.
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/cal-smog-605555/
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/emission-test-failed-343956/
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/my-85-wont-pass-inspection-334794/

You will find other ones when you use the search with the words denatured alcohol.

Your welcome. I don't know how your smog laws are there but in Ca if you go to gross polluter status it's a pain afterwards. If you can get them to do a sniffer before the run the test and see if you are going to pass that would be great.

Move somewhere that doesn't have emission controls. Then remove all emission controls.

If you don't have to worry about emmission laws, putting a free-flow exhaust will make the most improvement. Without a free-flowing exhaust, any other mods will leave you totally underwhelmed.

Ok, I'll correct you.

Unless a totally stock carb'd 12a is in excellent running order and the catalytic converter is doing it's job it will not pass.

A problem in the carburetor including things such as a plugged idle circuit or a restricted main air jet will cause a failure even with a great cat on it.
Unless the plugs, air filter, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, etc..- are in good working order there is a good chance it will not pass.
If the oil is very contaminated, low compression, and on and on.....
A brandnew engine with all brandnew components complete with a fully rebuild carb that is in perfect operating order will not pass tailpipe emissions if the catalytic converter is worn out.....

and ill correct you doc.. a clogged idle circut will not in any way affect your smog test in southern california.. the test is done at 15 mph and 25 mph on a dyno... smog checks vary from state to state and even different counties within the states... depending on where your at
everything else you pointed out is right on

sorry, I am not familar with the dyno emission testing. The test in my area are done at the standard old practice of the idle test. Which can be up to 1000RPM and the 2500RPM test.

im gonna try the free flow cat im getting an exhaust system this weekend. now im going to a muffler shop. im adding a apex N1 exhaust and piping the car with
2 1/4 tubing. what do you guys think??? also as for the things i did to the car to pass smog is. first added MMO (the rx7 gin & juice) . then did a full tune up plugs, oil filter, fuel filter etc. after took the car out for a ride. about 3 days later took my car to work and removed the brake master main vacume line. i did a slow drip IV flow (like at the doctor) of sea foam (1 full can) took about 30 min. next took the car for a hard run. stopped at homedepo and got a gallon of denatured alcohol. poured the gallon in and took it for smog passed with flying colors.

droplets of gas and oil and other stuff come out of my exhaust while its idling and create a nice little puddle on the road after about 5 minutes . Could i pass smog with the stuff?

I'd be interested to see what a car with dual Webers and a straight through exhaust would score.

Plants wilt in my passing.

I'm so glad that Saskatchewan doesn't have emissions testing, and by the time they bring it in, my car will be an antique vehicle and therefore exempt!

Well, the gas analyzers register up to 2000PPM on HC's. You would reset the machine. Meaning that it would be past that.

I passed!!!
After I replaced my Cat with a CA spec cat, I had shimmed my air control valve, but my pretest showed that did not make a difference. For good measure I put in 1 gallon of denatured alcohol to approx 2-3 gallons of gas. I had to readjust the idle mixture afterwards because it idled rough...lean mixture, I supose.

Here are the readings:
15 mph - HC PPM max 152 - meas 91---CO% max 1.05 - meas .04
25 mph - HC PPM max 123 - meas 34---CO% max 0.14- meas 0.00
Kali takes no idle readings. If it had failed this time I would have installed a pre-cat as a last resort, as it was equipped OEM with one but does not have one now. I have since de-shimmed my air control valve and readjusted my timing to the performance setting recommended by Racing Beat.

I'm so happy, now I can get my baby registered and fix things at my liesure.
