harness bar?
hey guys, i just ordered some seats for my 7 and wanted to get some new harnesses as well. i would like to get some kind of harness bar to mount them to, and i would rather not get one of the autopower roll bars that a harness can mount to. does any one know where i can get one? or have plans for making one?

Overall I am agains the use of a 4 point harness in a car that doesn't have a roll bar. In a roll over if you are in a 4 point harness you cannot duck out of the way of the roof.

what are you going to do with your car? If you are intending on running your car in open track events i would not recommend the use of a harness bar.

If you are just looking for a way to hold yourself in for auto-x a harness bar is fine, I've only seen two cars roll at an auto-x. One was a Rabbit GTI, one was an Omni GLHS.
3rd or 4th on the roll bar ditto. But if you want a harness bar PM me, I've got an FB chassis at the shop to use as a fixture and I can powdercoat it whatever color you want. I can do a bolt in roll bar as well.

I have a harness bar that is practically new I will sell. I was using it in autocross and it was fine. Now I am doing HPDE's and Time Trials.....out with the harness bar and in with the roll bar!

I would recommend a Schrothe Rallye 3 Harness if you haven't bought them yet. You can get away without the harness bar (should tie into the rear luggage straps) and would be much safer than a traditional 4-point without a rollcage. They're designed to that in the event of a severe hit, the inside strap will break. This allows your body to roll to the inside as a traditional 3-point would do.

I used this setup on my BMW 533i for autox and rallyx. Probably get another set to put in the GTO if I autocross it this year.

Its an '84 533i I bought for $500. Honestly, a great car to rallyx. Has independent suspension all around, rear-wheel drive, manual and not too sluggish with that straight 6. Most of all it was a lot of fun. Car is still going too but since I moved I passed it on to my little brother to use as a daily driver. The body has too much wrong with it as far as rust to really bother saving it for anything special, just a great beater that'll probably run for a very long time and if you can do your own work, surprisingly cheap to maintain.
