I have had this car for two days and now it wont move. i was driving down the road in third and had to slow down so i went to down shift at about 20 mph. so i down shifted and applied gas but the car didn't move any faster. rpm's went up. clutch was engaged but no power getting to the wheels. what happened?! there are no knocking soundsor anything. the engine and trans seem to be in working order. thanks for the help

Well, my fuel pump somehow wasn't getting power to it, so I re-wired it myself, now it's good as gold. If it is your fuel pump, the easiest way to find out is to turn the key in the on posistion, and you should easyily hear it turn on as well, with the door open. It is located next to the left rear wheel assembly. If you don't hear anything, well, take out the rear "cubby hole" behind the drivers seat, and break out a volt meter and test the wires going to the fuel pump.

If you can rev the engine but go nowhere and you can shift the gears and feel the detents, it's gotta be the clutch. If you move forward at all, the rearend is OK....time for a CenterForce Dual-Friction clutch...

Get a whole clutch set. It includes the plate, disc, throw out bearing, and the alignment tool. Also get a pilot bearing. They usually don't come in the kits. Follow the steps in Haynes and remember to drain the tranny first. It's much easier to move empty. If you can use a lift that is great. If not, a set of jack stands will work but it's not fun crawling under there. To replace the pilot bearing you'll need a special tool to remove the old one. Go to Autozone and borrow one. It goes on the end of a slide hammer so you need room under there to use it.

Airflow is my life
I dont replace the pilot bearing unless its bad. Clean it, check it, if its good re grease it. Oh and check the pilot bearing seal. If its good, chances are the pilot is good too.

I hate to ask, but is this your first car with a manual clutch? A new aggressive manual shift driver can burn up a clutch in two days... . . . . . . . . .
But that is neither here nor there.
When you purchased the car, would releasing the clutch too fast kill the engine from a standing start?

That would be very nice to do, but the freakin' flywheel nut is going to give him a serious fight unless he has an impact gun with at least 400 ft/lbs of breaking force. It sounds like this will be his first time, so I say leave the thing on there and hope for the best....and I really hate saying that as "advice" but I really believe it will be beyond his capabilities to get that beast off...he's gonna be doing this on his back, remember??....

ok, there was a new clutch installed 6000 miles ago with the engine. i am going over there today to do a couple of things. i.e. release the clutch. look underneath to see the driveshaft. what about the slave cylinder above the bell housing? i have been driving a stick for about a year now. i did drive the car a little hard but i only drove it twice because it wasn't plated. thanks for your help guys.
