GSL-SE seat options
GSL-SE seat options
I’m sure this is one of those topics where there are lots of opinions. The seats in my SE are literally toast after having sat in the sun for 13 years. The whole interior is baked and crumbly. The original leather on the seats is missing in large chunks so the exposed foam is disintegrating. Seems all the foam is gone where my butt goes. I had thought about buying replacement skins from lseat.com or racing beat but without the underlying foam I’m not sure that’s a smart idea. I’m going to start looking around for an upholstery shop to see what they recommend.
I’m not opposed to putting some non OEM seats in there if they fit correctly and are comfortable. I found a thread once that had started to list all the seats that “should” fit in a 1st Gen but nobody every really said what seats really worked well.
So, does anyone know of a good replacement seat option and/or in the meantime a simple seat cover that I can put over these seats to help not get crumbly foam all over my clothes?

Thanks KC, reading through some of the threads on seats it looked like you were going to put some RX-8 seats in your 7, did you ever end up doing that? I like the looos of the RX-8 seats. Now I need to try to locate some. Fabrication doesn’t scare me. I can weld and I enjoy do that sort of stuff. I’m at finding the the seats that seems more scary.
The RX-8 seats are going into my REPU.
I ended up finding some perfect red cloth seats for my 1985 RX-7. The original leather one has a big crack in the driver's seat and the leather on both is so hard now it isn't restorable. I could get the RB seat covers. The foam is still good.
I have a couple sets of gray cloth 1984-1985 seats that are good and not all torn up. The issue with selling is the shipping. It's cheaper to find some a few hundred miles away then pay shipping.

I wish someone made a replacement foam kit for the seats. If my foam wasn’t toast, literally, I would just recover them. Did that a long time ago for my Volkswagen and it was a fun project.
