Considering seat change any advice?

I read all the thread on seat changes and it looks like FC's go right into FB's. I am going to go check them out at the junk yard. I was considering getting my 85 GSL leather seats redun in cloth versus buying new one. i like the tilt. Can anyone give me a price that they paid for having there seats redone?

I really like the MX-3 combos, but heard they don't fit directly. ANyone able to tell me how difficult it was to install them? Thanks.

I had mine re-done a few years back and spent between $200-300, if I remember right. I had cloth put in the seat portion and the cut out in the back. The sides stayed leather.

The place I was goign to go today was closed. I didn't get a chance to look at seats. I was just wondering cause they have the adjustable R1 Racing seats for about 450 for the pair. That's what I really want but can't see the practicality in it when there's so many other things I need, like a carburetor. That's what I was figuring htough, about 100 to 150 per seat.

I have 2nd gen seats in my 85 GSL - the bolsters are great, the seats are comfortable, and unless you really, really want an adustable headrest, they are in every way an upgrade

You might want to talk to somebody that redoes interiors. I spoke to one locally last year about redoing seats, because every RX7 I found had leather seats thet were bad. He recommended using the new quality Leatherette (like BMW, Audi) instead of recovering entire seat with cloth or using real leather. With leatherette, he could match the color and only replace the panels needing replacing, and it in no way can be detected as being just 'vinyl'. Probably the best option, especially since quality shops replace/repair any foam that needa attention. Check on that if you want to keep your original seats.

Why not just find GSL seats that are already cloth? Mine are.

i plan on eventually getting the A4, i sat in a couple different seats at a local race shop, and in my opinion, it was the best one they carried, including a $900 sparco.

as far as fc seats in a first gen, i tried putting fb seats in my dad's fc, and they didnt fit right, and since i didnt really have anything to make them fit with me, i had to pass it up. so they arent a direct bolt on, but they were soo close.

What I meant to include is that the 2nd gen (FC) seats are also a straight bolt-in as you thought, and that the bolsters hug you like your ex-girlfriend when she realized that she still loves you

FC seats if you're thinking budget and want adjustable back.

Corbeau Forza if you want a racing seat without any adjusting.

Sparcos if you have a lot of money.

That's the extent of my knowledge.

BTW, be sure that the stock belts will fit with your seat (or go to a harness). The FC seats will work fine with the stock belts but I doubt any aftermarket seats will work that well.

Pratch, are the FC seats any lower? My legs get in the way of the wheel so I'm giong to try the steering wheel from my racecar, but if that isn't enough then I need to get lower seats.

There is a minor height difference, but we're talking at most an inch if not closer to 1/4". I don't have hard evidence to back this up either.
