I had DAD seats in my FC but now I have switched to Cobra racing seats. The passenger side will be the problem. The passenger side seat will have to be mounted higher because of the uneven floor board and the width of the DAD seats. I made custom brackets for them and used the sliders that came with the seats. The Cobra seats where easier to install because they are not as wide and I just made adapter brackets to use with the stock seat rails.

I made custom brackets for the drivers side but, it could be done without them.

I have them and ended up drilling holes and using the universal sliders. Not happy w/ that as I had very limited travel on one side and the fact that I drilled holes was bad. As it turns out, I'm going to be parting that car and putting them in a different one, so instead of being lazy this time, I'll probably adapt them to the stock rails somehow.

Not real sure yet how though...

Ya or risk having your seats rip through the sheet metal in an accident if you do not mount them right.

You can try using some steel flatbar (1.5" x 3/16") across the stock seat rails and drilling holes to mount the seats. The passenger side will have to have a bend upwards on the end at the transmission hump and be spaced up on the door side to make the seat sit flat . I made the mounts for my Cobra seats this way but they are not as wide or as tall as the DADs. They might hit the roof or be tilted towards the window. I welded custom mounts for the DADs and it was a pain in the *** compared to the way I did my Cobra seats.

I've installed aftermarket seats in three of my cars now, and the best way that I've found to do it is to make the adjustments on the upper side, and use your stock brackets. I used the brackets that came with the seats on my first try and when I corner hard you can still feel the bracketry flex JUST a little, but enough. On the other two sets I installed, I drilled holes in a piece of angle iron (looks like a L and you get it at Home Depot) to connect both front bolt holes, and both back bolt holes, then drilled holes again to mount my old rx7/mustang brackets to the angle iron. In both cases it took less than half the time it did to try to adjust and drill holes in the floor and make straps to accomodate angles and everything, and they're rock solid in the turns now. Lucky the first car is just a cruiser or I'd probably pop those seats out and do it over again.

Here are pictures of the DAD seats in my car and the Cobras in my car. These are the best pictures I could find and I did not take any of the seat brackrts. The Cobras are a better fit and a FIA approved racing seat.

Just use the stock rails with the brackets mounted on top as in the the diagram below. You will have to measure everything and be aware of where the bolts are to make sure you can bolt the brackets to the seat and then to the rails. I welded the bolts(grade 8) to the brackets to make it easier to tighten when mounting the seats to the rails. Try the passenger side first since it is the hardest. Good Luck!

I've got DAD's in my GTU. The guy i had them modified the stock brackets so they fit most of the stock holes. Only had to mod them a bit more to make them fit perfect when I got them. I find you sit lower than stock base model seats, assuming they others aren't different it would be lower compared to the entire line of seats that come in FC's.

Did 37FC3S's post with the pictures help? That's what I was describing, only I used angled ( L Shaped) aluminum instead of the flat that he's talking about because the angled aluminum has a lot more strength than flat.

Oh, and I seem to remember the RX7 being more difficult because the bolt holes aren't evenly spaced around the seat frame. (as in, they don't make a rectangle when you connect the dots) but I think that's just on the passenger side.

In a nutshell the important thing is that your stock brackets have to be roughly the same distance apart so that your new seat will bolt into the car right. Then you have to add a piece to the stock bracket so that they'll bolt into your new seat right.

And if yours is anything like mine, invest in a metric tap and die set, because every bolt on my RX7 is stripped so I go ahead and just rethread every new bolt and hole when I take the old one out, instead of turning wrenches for 10 minutes wondering why the bolt won't tighten.

hahaha to the stripped bolts... well here is what i did i got some plate steel.. i split the stock rails in half (top from bottom) i attached the plates to the top of the bottom half of the stock rails.. drilled holes for the aftermarket brackets... its rock steady..HOWEVER it sits too tall in the ***.. so ill have to redo it .. i can remove some 3/8th spacers from the rear but i dont know how much that will help.....
