GSL-SE Power steering trouble

For the most part yesterday was the ****, I finaly got every thing rigged well enough that I could drive my SE around a little. every thing was going fine untill about a block away from my house, the power steering started making all sorts of noise, I went back home and when I shut the car off power steering fluid (lots of it) bubbles over and spills out of the cap. whats going on??
when I had the car up on jack stands and toped of the fluid there was no noise and every thing was fine.

I haven't messed with it much yet because It was kinda late last night. but if any one could please point me in the right direction it would give me a head start on tonights investigation.

I don't know too much about the power steering mechanism, cause mine doesn't have it... so my vote is:

rip the sucker out

(i understand sometimes people don't like to do that, so sorry, not trying to be ignorant) but it's a real light car, and with no power steering, you'll feel the road a lot better, and lose some weight

I really like the power steering and want to keep it if possible, should I just pull the belt off so I don't F the pump up untill I get it fixed?.

also this was my first time driving an SE and the steering felt quicker than other FB's I've driven, Do SE's have a diferent ratio?

Yeah, thats what I'm gonna have to do.
Nobody knows what could cause the PS fluid to boil over like that?

judging from your description it didnt actually boil over, sounds like it foamed out, did you bleed all the air out of the system ? the proper way goes something like this :

1 start car, turn wheels full left, then full right
2 turn off car
3 wait for the air bubbles in the PS resiviour to dissapate
4 repeat

2 or 3 tries will get all the air out, only then should ya top it off to the full mark

id also check all the fittings and hoses again, a smal leak on the suction side of the pump will also cause excessive foaming...

Talking

Hey thanks, sounds like good advice. I'll try it tonight

I thought I got all the air out when it was on jack stands by cranking the wheel, but maybee their needs to be some resistance on the system.
