gsl se oil pump or scam?

Go to mazdatrix.com and compare their part numbers. I think all they do is take the prefix, and turn it into the suffix. Anyways, all the do is move the numbers around a bit.

'84-85 12a's have the same sized oil pump as the GSL-SE IIRC.

If the engines you took apart were all S3 engines, you could be looking at an identical oil pump.

I hate to say it, but if you've spent $200 on a stock oil pump, you've been severely gyped.

www.racingbeat.com and www.mazdatrix.com both have their 17.5mm race oil pumps for $145, and they're even hardened for extra durability!

The GSL-SE are much larger than the stock 12-A. If I have time to dig in my pile of junks, I will take pix of both models for comparison purposes.

The GSL-SE is 17.5mm as is any '84-'85 12A pump. I'd venture a guess and say any '83 to '85 12A had the high volume oil pump. They all had the beehive oil cooler, and the 12A turbo had a turbo, and its production run was '83 to '85. Makes sense to have only one oil pump model across three engines to keep costs down.

A little trivia for you. The nitrided R5 13B also had a 17.5mm oil pump.
