are Gsl-se front struts same as 84-85 12a?

I'm trying to find some extra struts and I'm wondering if the gsl-se front struts are the same as the 84-85 big bearing units? I know the rotors are the different, but not sure about the actual struts.

Thanks,

alvin

Just to clarify, it's not the struts, (i already have konis), but I need a replacement upright, and I think I can get a hold of some gsl-se ones, just wondering if they'd work on my 82 (which are running 84-85 12a uprights.

All FB struts will bolt up to all pre-86 RX-7 including RX-3 and RX-4.

Just remember '79 and I think '80 as well had struts that were about an inch taller/longer so your inserts (konies) probably wont fit in them.

no! the gsl-se has a yellow paint mark, and the 12a's have an orange mark!

seriously, the parts catalog lists different part numbers, but they come WITH the shock, which is different 12a/13b, so thats no help

they do however use all the same bearings and seals and stuff between the 12a and 13b, so it probably is

GSL-SE and non-SE has the same strut tube. The cartride has a different part # as the SE is heavier

Wait, now i'm getting more confused. I thought that the 84-85 used a bigger bearing? So I was assuming the spindle was different between 81-83 vs. 84-85 struts? are you guys saying they are all the same?

Let me double check for you tomorrow. I have both 81 and 84 spindles. As far as I can remember, they are all the same except the 84-85 has a larger outer wheel bearing.

1979-1980, Long Strut Tubes, Small outer bearing
1981-1983, Short Strut Tubes, Small outer bearing
1984-1985 (12A), Short Strut Tubes, Big outer bearing
1984-1985 (13B), Short Strut Tube, Big Outer bearing, Slightly different King Pin Inclination.

The SE's do have a slightly different king pin angle. Not enough to matter. They will bot up to and replace any 1979-1985.
