Grinding from tranny?
so when i was driving the rx7 from taking it out to show some friends, right under the shifter/ in the tranny it started randomly squeaky then stopping. So i didnt think much of it. then randomly it started squeaking real hard/loud and stayed. so i got home as soon as i could and parked it. after takin the neon out and playing some cod, i got home and decided to test it again and it still squeaks loud and u can sorta feel it in the shifter. is there something wrong with the tranny? could something have possibly fallen into it or could it be because the flywheel is rusty? im confused here, im not scared of dropping the tranny and doin a rebuild, just confused of what it is. its an 83 engine.

if you are stopped, there isnt anything in the shifter thats moving, however it could be something attached, like the exhaust, or something on the front of the engine that is spinning.

He did not state that the exhaust was spinning!
He said that it could be something on the front of the engine......... Meaning the alternator, water pump and or smog pump if it is still on there could be making the noise.
A rotational noise.
The exhaust could be rattling also. There is a factory support bracket that attaches the exhaust to the transmission area. Or the exhaust is hitting something underneath.
You need to put the car up on some car ramps or jack stands and get under there when it is running to see if you can located the noise.
As far as falling into the transmission or around the slave, no!
To eliminate the possibility of it being a rotational noise such as the alt, etc you can just take the belt off and run it for a minute and so and tell whether or not the noise goes away.

basically if the car is stopped, then the transmission isnt moving, and if its not moving then its not going to make a noise.

May be a bearing in the transmission is going bad. Mine was doing that and when I changed the oil in it, the drain plug was covered with lots of tiny metal shavings. I took it out and dropped it off today to have it rebuilt.
