Govner???? where is it?
My 84 GSL-SE is governed at 90 mph and I was wondering where the hell it's located? I want to rip it out and re-tune the engine so it pulls out it's max power...etc...

82transam: As far as I know (from a couple of cops and other things) ANY altercation to the govner/ecu is compltely and totoally iilegal (for street legal cars that is)...(there are loopholes tho...). I know if you get caught with a altercatied ECU you get our car impounded immedialty BUT if you REPLACE the ECU its fine BUT you cant reprogram it...which they dont know but still....
Yea if im wrong be sure to correct me bcz yea this is what I was told by two cops and someone else....dont remember who....

Some manufacturers do speed limit there cars for the speed rating of the tires they install and recommend for them. My dad's 94 Caprise Classic 4.3L V8 is a perfect example, its speed limited to 108mph. The tires are S-rated. Its not for the sack of keeping the speed slower then the cars potential in most cases, its for the tire ratings they use. There is a ECU programer that can alter the settings to performance and remove the limiter.
But for the RX-7's, no such thing. Fuel system is were I would start with yours. Filter, injectors, etc. Then move to air filter, ignition, TPS, AFM, etc.

Yeah, speed ratings on tires (probably not unlike yours) aren't that high unless you buy higher-rated tires which are expensive. So now, to prevent lawsuits, the manufacturers govern the car's top speed to eliminate the possibility of the tires blowing out at high speeds...
RX-7's came before this notion came around, so you don't have to worry about it! And no, it's illegal to change the ECU programming, as long as it still passes air care if you need to...
