tossed my alternator belt last night

i went out to dinner with the special lady friend and i got across town just fine, but as i was just pulling off the highway to get home, i heard a goofy slapping noice from under the hood of my '84 se and all my dash lights went on.

i thought "**** i know what that means"

so this morning i picked up a replacement belt and thought NO PROBLEMO i'll throw this on in like 2 seconds. like in the '83.

no dice on that one.

i forgot to think about the fact that i didn't have AC, PS, or my air pump in the '83.

is there a way to get that belt on the alternator without taking off three other belts to get to it?

i have found no othe way. it takes little over 45 mins to change the belt. also, if it were me personally, i would replace all of the belts.

i scoped out all the other belts and they seem alright. the lettering on the backside isn't brown yet...

not much left of the alt belt tho haha..

speaking of which, i also get to perform the most fun task of unwinding alt belt threads from the fan :|

you can swap all belts with air pump and ac without taking the fan off. it's probably just as fast to remove it, though it is possible.

anyone? do i have to loosen what looks like a little tensioner pulley, or can i swing the unit in toward the motor like the ac and smog pump?

i went out and poked around again - i have to turn the long bolt that goes through the tensioner pulley, correct?

take it off and don't put it back on, it's not worth the power loss... unless you're a girl, j/k.
How is the steering when you just remove the belt?
I've driven a power steering fb 12a but never owned one to try it out.
