Running a little fat, eh?

My car is running very rich right now, but no flames; just the occasional smoke puff.

how do you adjust a -se's mixture to make some flames? the only time i can even get a backfire is after i have been giving it some stick for a long time, then winding down in 3rd gear from 6k BANG. but no flames

I am assuming you meant rich...as it occurs when you can't burn all the fuel and it ends up igniting in the exhaust...

I get flames on full throttle shifts, when I hit the limiter, and I get a "lit candle" on deceleration.....
